DIY iPhone/iPod Touch Dock

Noticed this DIY iPhone dock while trolling around on Flickr earlier; it's a bit old, but i couldn't pass this one up.

Apple included an iPhone dock with the first release of the iPhone but has since removed the dock as a prepackaged accessory. The dock, a little bit of plastic with some little connection bits costs a ridiculous $49 via the Apple Store. That price was just too high for Flickr user sayesbury so he came up with his own innovative and unique DIY dock using the iPhone's packaging.

I wanted a dock stand for the iphone, but I could not believe Apple want £35 for it.

Seeing as the iphone already comes with a dock plate, it was just a simple matter of glueing the dock cable to the plate and mounting it onto a box.]

You will have to trim the bottom of the dock plate so the dock connector will sit square on the plate.

i took a dremel to my 1st gen iphone dock to make the new one fit hehe

very cool. I saw this a while back and thought it was great so I made one. Too big if you ask me though so I am working on another slimmer design...

Id rater not have my phone docked than in this gaudy looking trash. Also i think the docks were 30 bucks last time i looked.

Sorry to hijack, but I saw an iphone 2g dock going for £5 in tk maxx, I brought it but didnt have the drill.......40 mins, 1 cut finger and a sore arm later.......

Slides in nice and smooth

Ps How do you put full size pics in your post (not them thumbnail type pics)

I would rather just spend the $30 on a clean piece of plastic rather than have this Frankenstein'd monstrosity on my desk.

Although it may not be that visually pleasing for some it will do the job just fine for DIY's who could care less about a shiny piece of $30 plastic. You can make it in 5 minutes and it could also be used to hide/store your other random accessories on your desk ie wall charger plug, paperclips etc. Also it will keep your USB sync cable from seperating at the dock plug which seems inevitable. If I docked/synced my phone more often I would consider it myself.
