I don't know what the hell is going on but cydia will not allow me to add that source.

    I tried all of these....

    http://apt.saurik.com]
    http://cydia/apt.saurik.com
    http://cydia.apt.saurik.com

    to no avail.

all I get is this message from cydia saying that the repository could not be found or I was
trying to install legacy installer repository which are not supported.

    PrivaCy Cydia

I am not to unhappy about them collecting data, I have concerns about them collecting my exact location - but if that info is just collected for local information to be provided and is not stored or tracked then I have no problem with that.
I also have concerns about the fact that they send info about whether the phone is JB - could devs stop their apps working on JB phones? Apart from that, I'm not unhappy that they send info.

Or at least, I wasn't until I read that it kills your battery....

I have turned it all off only to see if it improves my battery life. Even if it does I'll probably turn it back on except when I know I won't be able to reach a charger.

Pinch Media and others worked with Saurik to produce this app. I'm sure they are not 'evil'. People are concerned about privacy but there is a difference between concern and paranoia!

I wonder if Pinch Media could provide figures as to what % of phones are JB? Aggregated figures can be very useful, so long as they are not tracking me individually i'm fine with it.

    Just my 2d's worth.

Try going to Cydia, manage, settings at the top left and choose developer (no filters) then refresh Cydia.
You can try Icy too, you can find Privacy there. If you dont have ICY, you can install it adding this repo to Cydia http://apt.ripdev.com once you install ICY and refresh it and look for privacy.

The thing is it was ilegal because they can have access to your iphone before without asking you nothing. Then when they realize that somebody maybe can sue them, then they worked together to develop this app so now it is legal because now you have to agree so it can happen then now nobody can sue them because you agree turning them on. Smart move

Yeah i dont know about this one kid. What about non-jailbroken phones ? tehy have no option to turn it off except maybe to not use any iphone apps , nor download them.

idk im really really scared with the technology that can come from things like this that go unchecked.

like can we even see what data is being collected? if i asked to see my file would they let me? obviously not. Well if they wont let me, i can only assume that its something they dont want me to see.

thanks! for the guides, but for some reason I can't connect to the sources that provide privacy, I don't get why since I can fully surf the web with safari, I know my wifi is working. I get error connection under cydia and icy. the only way I can install privacy is to install the .ipa.

I've installed PrivaCY and made the appropriate changes within the Privacy settings. Now when I try to launch the NYTimes app, I get the following notice:

    Medialytics PrivaCy Notice
"NYTimes" chooses to monetize their content using the Medialets Ad framework, which in turn requires usage of the Medialytics Tracking engine.
Option: Don't Allow (Quit) or Allow (Continue)

So apparently there is no opt-out in this case. Either you can use the app with the tracking, or not use the app.

    Lame.

i did not jailbreak my 3gs untill i read this news report.
i jailbroken my 2g since the beginning because it was lacking key features that jailbreaking provided.

with the 3gs it came very close for me to not jailbreak it couse it had most that i expected from a iphone.
but this just threw me overboard again.

for the others who say good that the company came straight forward.
i will say bad that the company even did this without permision, bad that apple didnt build in the option and already put if off on default.

and thanks saurik for making it possible.

I installed privaCy on iphone 3g s and disabled all in the privaCy settings, also upgraded the mobilesubstrate in cydia the day after now my battery drains like crazy and it is acting very crazy at first it would die from 100% in less than 2 hours without using it. when I would plug it in to the computer and open itunes it asked me to restore the phone from backup I thought it was wired and restored the phone now the battery lasts longer but it is still going crazy, I mean I would let the phone charge overnight and in the morning it would be at 100% when I unplug it if I use the phone (ie. make call or go on safari) in less than 5 min would be at 90% or less. Even if I put the phone on stand by the battery would continue to drain at a very fast rate it would be completely dead with 4 or 5 hours. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

sozae: It's highly likely that it's something else - not privacy. I would restore the iphone and be careful on what you install (just install one at a time to see which causes the issue

Yeah, you are right it has nothing to do with privaCy it looks like the phone is going crazy. I have done about 4 restores and tried different combination of fixes for the battery issue and none of them seem to be working. If anyone is able to give me any suggestions please do.

Everyone maintains privacy. There must be some way that can stop these bullshits. I think there is only one advantage is tracking phones, that is only if you loose it. It really needs to be stopped.
