    "all our movies suck "
you plug in the iphone, and start playing an HD copy of a movie that just hit DVD yesterday
no one has seen it yet.
    everyones happy.

you spend the next week on craigslist finding 5 used iphones for all your friends who HAVE to have one now.
    lol

haha this has been the story of my life so far and i didnt even need the HD feature
this scenario would take the cake though
i would have to open my own iphone retail store

Yeah, I've been doing that for about a year now. I always have 3-4 movies on my phone and I keep the A/V cables in my car just in case.

I'm a helpful jerk, fear me.

    And this matters, why?
We are talking about the 3GS which comes in 16 and 32 gigabytes.

How does it look on the TV? Will a video I downloaded from itunes look ok on a 32 inch TV with the AV cables?

If you do a good encode straight off a DVD, it looks almost as good as a DVD. It does show some artifacts on busy scenes but for the convenience of making your iPhone a portable DVD I can't complain.

^ I agree. Maybe not great for action movies but for slower moving scenes the picture looks clear

This is interesting. I would like to see true HD played back on the iPhone just to see how it handles it.
