GeoHotz says R.I.P Purplesn0w and purplera1n

GeoHotz announced yesterday that he will not be updating the Purplesn0w and purplera1n tools for OS 3.0.1. In fact, he won't be updating them at all. One reason - the DevTeam tools already work. He also mentions that the tools were merely a proof of concept, trying to show better and much more painless jailbreak methods exist than the DevTeam's, which he claims to be "complex"!
GeoHotz says those willing can customize his patches to work on the new firmware with a minimum amount of changes, as most of the payload works - it's just a matter of changing the spot where the tool tackles in the kernel. Although... hey, what's wrong with proper? Can't he do simple, proper, and fast?I code to make things simple, hacky, and fast. Dev codes to make things proper, slow, and complicated; redsn0w works OOTB. [...] Someone enterprising out there could probably fix it, it's just the kernel patches that are in the wrong place. Exploit and 99% of payload will work fine. But otherwise, purplera1n RIP.
Finally, he ends the blog on a good note having said that he may still do work for the iPhone / iPod Touch community and will be releasing some nice solution once the iPod Touch 3 is out, as he claims to to have some more holes...If I do another tool release, it'll hit the ipt3 and ra1nydayless 3GS. Told you I had more holes.

I see it now- the return of ZiPhone

twitter.com/dale1vMicrosoft owns the internet through Hotmail. The .HTML is short for Hotmail, so all .HTML files are MS files.

The Dev Team's jailbreak is more complex than Geohot's. Why is this article written like that's an untrue statement?

Maybe he should charge a buck or two. Maybe that would motivate him to continue. Who wouldnt pay for a jailbreak? I would.

I've never used "purpelra1n"; always have used Dev-Team stuff and never found it complicated to jailbreak or unlock. What's so complex about, "holding home button and sleep/wake button for five seconds, then releasing sleep/wake button and keep on holding home button for ten seconds?
nothing is.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with that. Actually it gives me the sensation that "I'm mechanically hacking my iPhone"

And since you only have to jailbrake once in awhile, who cares!
Thanks to Geo for his purplera1n solution, who calm my anxiety when there was no jailbrake available for 3GS and DevTeam was talking about holding it longer.
Also I used the redsn0w after Winterboard was updated, and there is no difference in functionality. Thanks to DevTeam for their ongoing commitment and hardwork.

Correct me if I'm wrong (seriously, because I could be mistaken here) but...
Don't you also have to have an ipsw laying around for RedSn0w? And it is like doing a restore - blows away all your settings, right? You have to re-configure email accounts, wifi info, set up VM again, etc.
With Purplera1n it just jailbreaks the device - you don't have to restore jack - it is much cleaner... at least that's my impression...
Also, Saurik appears to have something up his sleeve, per Cydia: "saurik is working on something that is going to make the upgrade process a lot simpler for people who are already using jailbroken devices."

^ no you don't restore to use redsn0w, and technically speaking purplera1n is the dirtier method.
