Confirming the jailbreak works. 3.0 firmware in redsn0w 0.8 on a 3GS.

So the main page has been updated saying we can jailbreak with redsn0w and unlock with ultrasn0w- can anymore confirm? Do I still have to re-unlock if I'm on the 2g iphone? Can't I just jailbreak with redsn0w? (and does anyone have a walkthrough for that one? I've only used pwnage tool before)

EDIT: Okay, so "Fightoffyourdemons" confirms the jailbreak in the post before me, what about the unlock and/or walkthrough?

yes...
3.0.1-2G users can jailbreak & unlock with the 3.0 firmware using redsn0w..just like the thread states in the update section..just confirming

MMS with the iPhone under AT&T has nothing to do with Apple or the firmware, it has to do with AT&T being [censored] about giving us what the rest of the world already has. T-Mobile users were able to get MMS working with their unlocked iPhones weeks ago, and you can /technically/ get it to work with AT&T too until they run a sweep and notice you're on an iPhone and then your fix is gone. It just wasn't worth the hassle to keep swapping SIMs back and forth all the time for a few MMS messages that I get weekly. Still waiting on the official word from those [censored] people at AT&T about the official release too.

This is my first time going through an update with Jailbreak. Please help on the steps. Do I,
1) make sure I have all of my cydia apps removed, backedup, or ready to be lost.
2) then update to 3.0.1
3) Re-jailbreak with the same redsn0w (8.0) and firmware patch.
4) re-install all of my cydia apps

Also, what about that iTunes update 8.2.1? I never updated that.

Am I missing something? Thanks....

1.) All apps installed through Cydia will be lost. Definitely back-up your phone in iTunes, though.
2.) Yes.
3.) Yes, but use 3.0 in redsn0w.
4.) Yes.

I can see why the 3.0 ispw will work for the JB since there's not much different......

but are there any chances that using the 3.0 ispw could actually leave the SMS bug open by copying some older code over the 3.1?

Any chance of that, or does it not copy info from the selected ispw to the phone and just use it to see whats on the phone?

You will have to restore your iPhone to factory settings to start with (this will wipe off the jailbreak including all the cydia apps etc)
Then update to 3.0.1 via iTunes
Re-jailbreak via redsnow using the 3.0 patch
And redownload all your apps

I gave it a shot, but my 3GS is just stuck on the redsnow waiting for reboot screen when selecting the 3.0 IPSW.

Edit: Nevermind, I had selected the 3G 3.0 file not the 3GS, its working now.

I'm an idiot, please move along
