This is just a security patch. They probably pushed it out because of all the news floating around about it now. Thank you for putting the fire under Apple to get the security fixed before the hackers did this time, unlike the old hack which hackers fixed first.

The update is just to fix the SMS hack I believe, rushed out ahead of 3.1 which is still in Beta.

Definitely not updating yet though. I'm not too worried about the hack and I really don't feel like going through the whole update/rejailbreak (when it's out)/reinstall hacks thing anytime soon.

Dumb question, but has Apple ever reached out to the dev team(s) to find a compromise. This "war" can not be great for Apples image. Especially since it further highlights AT&T's flaws

I will wait a day or two before I update, hoping that purplera1n will be updated to work. But it also gives me time to see how things float with redsn0w and the update.

I am sure they didn't change to much because they got a spotlight put on them and wanted to hurry and fix it.

I just got my new iphone today from ebay and i jailbreak it to 3.0 and now i see an update this is crazy. I feel confused i dont know what to do because 3.01 fixes the sms hack?

Apple really didn't like all the negative press with this security breach. Oh well. I'll take my chances with hijacking. Life is not complete without jailbreak.
