No, the note says redsn0w JAILbreaks 3.01 - slight difference there.

Anyone else noticed that battery remains at 100% on 3.01 - is there a thread about this? I JB about 7 hours ago and my phone is still showing 100% (3G with numeric battery through SBSettings)

i'm new to this jailbreak thing if i just go into itunes and update on a jailbroken iphone 3G will i lose my jailbreak
Also will it lock my phone

Yes and yes.
But if you Run RedSn0w and select the 3.0 ipsw you can JB again then install UltraSn0w and all will be fine again

Battery problem is fixed by a hard reset.

Thanks. I ment lock as in apple remotely locking the phone because I rejailbroke I haven't got as far as unlocking. I'm going to go on the official firmware and wait for the jailbreak

Apple don't lock phones! 3.01 is official and RedSn0w JBs - they won't bother updating RedSn0w just for this.

Allright Guys Just Update And Restore To 3.0.1 And Jailbreaked With Redsn0w 0.8 With Selected Firmware 3.0 . Mostly All Apps Working Perfectly Fine . All Themes And Yea Font Swap Too . So Hope Everythng Goes Like That ....But Yea When I Was On 3.0 My Camera Was Not Working & I Hoped After Updating To 3.0.1 . But No Luck Still Not Wokring .

I can confirm that jailbreak is working on iphone 3gs updated to 3.0.1 and using redsnow 8 to jailbreak using firmware 3.0

no issue at all everything seems fine with at the moment im going to try to install some packages from cydia

What happens if you have previously used purplera1n? is it possible to just restore and then use redsn0w or will prurplera1n leave stuff behind which might cause problems?

If you restore nothing will be left behind. Not sure if you just update though.

So despite using purplera1n first time around if I:-

restore
install 3.0.1 using itunes
then use redsn0w using a 3.0ipsw

I will be good to go again?

I also have a 2g iphone which needs unlocked too - is that the same as above except then install ultrasn0w?

no need to restore i used purplerain before and i just installed 3.1 from itune then redsnow 3.0 firmware and everything is ok

I am not sure that PR and RedSn0w won't cause unforseen problems. I would recommend doing a clean restore.

UltraSn0w is for the 3G/3GS only, not the 2G. RedSn0w unlocks the 2G.

It is always best to do a full DFU restore when updating you're firmware. Also in my opinion I think it's best to set up as a new device each time just to make sure nothing gets re-installed from the old firmware. Hell I don't think i've ever used the "Update" button. I ALWAYS put my phone into DFU mode and restored. It keeps it nice, cleaned up, and running smoothly.

I have better battery life with 3.0 than I ever did with 2.20
Push Notifications are a battery guzzler.

But to answer your question, no, all this update does is fix the SMS hack, nothing more.

i just updated to 3.0.1 and jb it using redsnow all went fine but i cant seem to add this source in cydia -------- which is important for some reason its saying cant find it.
