Happy,
Any idea how I can get an invite?
I sent my request weeks ago, told them I was a software beta tester and even did some iphone dev.
As well, scored trailers, (offered free services), and more.
Any idea on how I can get one soon or sooner? I really want to reserve a phone number at grand central.
Thanks Happy.Music at website a bit old - more new orhestra coming soon.

Anyone having problems with username/password in the app? It's worked fine for weeks for me but all of a sudden it won't take my credentials. I can sign into google voice no problem online but not GV mobile on the phone.

Before I do anything, will this work on the ipod touch? I really just want to use it for texting, not calling.
If so, I have a 1st gen - will it be compatible? Do I need to update the firmware to anything specific?
Sorry for the Q's but I just bought the touch off ebay today and don't have it yet - want everything ready though. Thanks

I have sent a request for an invite also and haven't heard a thing back from them. I wonder what's keeping them from expanding Google Voice? Have they ran out of server space or something? It would seem to me that more people using their service would be a welcomed thing but I guess too many is bad. I'm just hoping to hear something back. It seems like a bad@55 service.

agree. 100% and then some. I want to get it before apple approves then cripplles it. Let's face it, it's not about free calls and I hope things like govt. US healy insurance is offered and then things like obamas 100 billion or something like that, Internet bill gets passed. Yiu see, S consumers we get ripped off by paying huge dollars for cell service when calls use little band width. As a nation, I'm inthe US, we went from 3rd to 28th in terms of Internet infrastructure and speed. Other counties have govt. controlled laws which protect the consume. The GV mobile is all about free calls PLUS free MMS and the kicker is, nit to long ago there was an article thY talked about how MMS USED non active data packets to send messages, so essentially, we"re paying them for something that cost them nothing to use, talk about a scam. Google it, maybe I canfind it, it was about mms being free or not costing them (tecom) anything yet they charge us this outrageous fee which may not seem like much but if you have a smart phone for 25 years, rather, you out $30 away in a savings account for 25 years, that's $9000.00 dollars per person.
Reagrding falling to 28th from 3rd you can thank the telcom lobbiests that fought for quite a while about using phone lines for dsl and copper for cable. Hopefully all of this will be moot as we all move to satelite service in the future which, being able to get online anywhere, ABC LOST excempt, lol, unless Charlie killled the signal blocker, LOL, like govt. offered insurance, the phone plan prices should drop like a rock. In fact it was smart phones that saved most of these morons as pre smart phones, prices for service were really low. On that front, you can thank Apple AT&T agreement as once the iPhone or windows 6.5 phone plus android and palm pree start to make a dent, then we should see lower prices. I mean, cmon. In China they stream live TV on their devices meanwhile, we don't even have flash, which if you fig deep has nothing to do with adobe but eveything to do with Apple fearing Asobe flash opens the door to flash games and threatens the app store.
One thing is for certain, who ever gets flash working in their phone and is tied unwith the networks and has a decent phone, which could be the Palm Pre or Win 6.5 phone, wbtw, looks more like osx then win does, will have a huge hit. Not I'm all wound up. Lol. This is also why we don't see dvr on apple tv or flash on the iPhone. Let's see, with flash you can watch, eg, ABC's Lost seasons 1-4 complete in HD or purchase them from the app store fit $1.99-$2.99, per episode so does anyone really belive it's about security or battery life? No, it's all about the $$$$ and the sad thing is, while it is about the money albeit iTunes, Internet or data packages, so we see any improvement on speeds? We've been at 1.5MB smallest percent as most have 384k, while other countries have 20-50MB, which of course in this country means a threat to network TV as we know it.
I've been right about a lot of things for years so will make this prediction here, by the way about 5 years ago and since, I would tell eveyine I know, go into any store and flip the product over, made in Indonesia, Thailand, etcetera and that this was going to hurt us someday soon. Well??
I also said for years if you wanted a good US auto, you had to pay at least $30k as the union demanded high wages and insurance which the workers deserved, but they cuut corners in their cars in order to line their pockets. Now look at them. Saw this coming ALMOST 10 years ago.
Any, the prediction, learn final cut or some type of editing, learn a good music daw as network TV as we know it has almost come to it's end. The advertising money is no longer where it used to be, thanks to DVR but if commercials are done funny, people will watch, nonetheless all TV as we know it will come to an end as we finally get our speeds up. Entertainment will come from the Internet with producers, directors, editors, creating shows all online (why do think they offer most if it free, they want to make sure you stay there Nd you will, only in time, you will have choice as new shows via indie networks will start to pop up, commercials will be very good, interactive, there will be donation sites as well as commercial free sites and if the content is good, people give out of their pockets if they feel someone is desrving, of course this all takes place when the infrastructure is there, economy booming and peple working. Sure the inter bubble busted in 2002/3, but we've only just begun to scatch the surface.
Peace
Now please excuse me while I go and put on my tinfoil hat. LOL.Music at website a bit old - more new orhestra coming soon.

Google is like this with all their products. Gmail was in a period of no-invites closed beta while they worked out the major issues and finalized designing/setting up all the features they want on the system. Then they move to a closed-but-users-get-invites beta to increase numbers and finally move to an open beta.
However, there is a very large difference with Google Voice. Each GV account is assigned a real, working phone number. Unlike the internet, Google needs to get and obtain said numbers, of which I imagine is finite based on area codes and many other factors. This is what I imagine is hol54ding up GV altogether. Google has a ton of phone numbers, but it sure as hell doesn't have enough to handle the internet. My guess is that they'll make it a paid service (the same way you can pay $10 to change your current GV number) once it's free to sign up.

YOU know for me, its been three weeks almost, and I still haven't received an invite for GV or Grand Central.
What do you think it is? Can someone help me? Have the app but no way to sign in, with regard to 3.1, I think you will have to wait until the group JB or unlocks 3.1 which it has not done to date.
Thanks.
Any help getting an invite appreciated.
[email protected] or send me a PM for my mostly used email, much appreciated.Music at website a bit old - more new orhestra coming soon.

GV Invite
I can't seem to find the link to purchase a GV Mobile invite for .99 via PayPal. Is there a particular way to search on Ebay for this? Thanks for any help.
Update: I actually had to spell out "Google Voice Invite" on Ebay search then had no problem and got one for $1.99.Last edited by rberube; 09-22-2009 at 03:19 PM.

GV Mobile works great!
I love the free unlimited SMS. I'm not sure I am doing it right though. Any thoughts as to how I can SMS without using my plan txts? I am a little confused with this process.
Thanks for any help.
I'm glad I finally jailbroke my 3G after procrastinating for a year. It's so much better than before. I was one of those who went to 3.1 then decided to downgrade to 3.0.1 for jailbreaking purposes. I used iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore_768mb_Activated .ipsw then used redsn0w to finish the process.
This must be a bug. This happens intermittently to me also.Last edited by rberube; 09-23-2009 at 09:18 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Go to Google Voice on a computer. Click settings, select your phone and hit edit. Uncheck "Receive SMS on this phone". Done! Now you'll habe to either check the GV mobile app for new messages or forward your SMS to an email account of your choosing (preferably with push).
I've pretty much all but stopped using this app. I already have almost all of my contacts 406 numbers so I can directly call them and all my SMS/texting is done through email at no cost to me.

I must have read something wrong. I thought we got 2 numbers. Guess not but can change for $10. They should have a 24-48 hour option. Reason is, a number I picked said Burbank but when you call it it says LA.
Dark, did someone invite you? Where's that setting. Heading onver to rumor sites, stories probaby there.
