iPhone 3G + FW3.0 Problems
Hello.
I've got the app installed but it keeps timing out when I attempt to start a WiFi network and an on-screen menu appears saying:
Reboot
MyWi was not able to enable. Rebooting may help WiFi re-enable. Would you like to reboot your iPhone now?
[Reboot]
[Later]
Choosing MyWi's reboot option and even turning the iPhone completely off and on does not solve the problem. Occasionally it says Soft Restart in the title of the menu above instead of the Reboot that I listed...
Any ideas? I'm using an iPhone 3G and FW 3.0 (jailbroken and unlocked with ultrasn0w.)
Be great to get this working as I've already bought it and may need to request a refund if it won't work on my device. My first guess is that it is not compatible with something that I currently have installed (which would also be a refund issue because I need all the stuff I currently have installed).
Thank you for any assistance.

I had the same problem...I had tethering set up thru ben's settings and installed mywi and got your errors...I tried resetting network settings and lost my tethering...went back to help.benm.at and tried reinstalling carrier profile...didnt work...got some blue box error message about a profile error...
I got the sinfuliphone repo and browsed thru it and found a package called mms and tether settings...got my tether working again, and THEN Mywi started working...no problems since...

Interesting to hear all these problems because so far MyWi has been one of the best apps/utility Ive ever had. It has ran just about perfectly since I got it, esp. when connected with usb, although I prefer broadcasting(takes a ton of battery). there are times when it doesnt connect wirelessly but thats usually after Ive already connected once, then disconnected in an abrupt way. If I have just turned on my iphone or resprung, I can pretty much count on it working the first time i try it.
I use this to do what Ive wanted to since I first saw "Aircards" and that is play my online poker sessions pretty much any where I want.... outdoors, wherever Ive got 3g. another thing is im in southern CA and Im pretty sure this is one of the best spots for AT&T service so Ive never had the problems others talk about and I get service in some pretty remote locations.
The speed has also been noticeably better than pdanet, still not as fast as my home wireless network but plenty of speed for browsing or whatever... and best of all it just frees you up to travel wherever you want and stay connected if you need to!

MyWi working (sort of) now - Don't know Wi ;-)
After deleting, reinstalling, rebooting several times, it now works beautifully and reliably - but only by broadcasting. I have not found any way to make USB tethering work at all. Seems that it would require configuring a USB port for that purpose & I haven't found any instructions on how to do that (on a PPC Powerbook running Leopard).
Still, aside from the battery drain, MyWi is a very effective & reliable broadband access method once you manage to get it working. I take back my previous remarks about it's lack of value.

I will be buying this app in a couple days and I think most will know why.

Finally will be able to browse the sites work blocks, which is basically everything including local news sites.
I35 bridge collapse, yea wasn't able to look up the news for it or use the phone because all lines went into overload because of the emergency. No TV either so we just sat here unknowingly till a courier told us.

Nobody has an iPad yet so not sure of that 100%. Not fully sure why it won't.

the rock version: does the rock app run in the background always?
the non-rock version: does this require mobile substrate to be installed?

I'm surprised it works because MyWi doesn't work with other mobile phones (BlackBerry, Andriod, Google G1) and other "Non-PC/MAC" devices.
It appears to create an "AD HOC" network that these devices cannot even see. I would wait for a few more verifications before running out and buying a WiFi iPad based on one person's feedback. I was very excited about MyWi and after ironing out the initial failures that occurred from older tethering hack installations, I was quite disappointed to find it only creates networks that computers and laptops can see, hence, no more useful than tethering with your USB for Bluetooth (unless you need more than one laptop/computer to connect).
I don't see the iPad accepting any network that another "non-computer" cannot.
I'm open to any clarification but I've tested it pretty thoroughly and it's really just a glorified tethering application (with an aggressive battery appetite).

UPDATE: My curiosity got the best of me so I visited a Best Buy and tested it myself. MyWi does indeed work to share your iPhone's connection wirelessly with an iPad. It's still an ad hoc style network but perhaps because they are both Apple products, it doesn't have the same problems as sharing the same connection with a BlackBerry or Google G1 (both devices cannot even see the network SSID).
Concerning MyWi's usefulness: I'd imagine for the average user, tethering via USB or Bluetooth to their laptop is sufficient but for those traveling with families or needing to connect multiple (compatible) devices to their iPhone's 3G connection, MyWi is definitely worth the $10. In my personal case, I prefer tethering with the USB cable as it is more reliable and keeps the iPhone charged.Last edited by carrisco; 04-05-2010 at 07:52 PM. Reason: Updated information

Nice 1, I had 1 day left of mywi trial an had an idea.. If I change the date in my clock to few days earlier would it give me extra days on my trial? So I changed it zn d guess what. It bloody worked lol, :-)).
I also bridged the 2 connections on my laptop (which runs vista) and I got online on my ps3 all night, I got dissconected once, I was a happy man, he he he,

MyWi does indeed work with the iPad!
This app is the ONLY reason I JB my iPhone. I only use it occasionally, but it is nice to have internet access when there isn't a hot spot around. Of course, now with the iPad, I am sure I will be using it more. So glad I didn't wait for the 3G version of the iPad! No need with MyWi and saves me an extra $15 or $30 a month for an additional plan too.
I don't physically tether it, but rather use it to create a wifi hotspot, and have had up to three computers/devices connected to it at once. The speed is quite good considering it is running off AT&T 3G network, even with all connected at the same time. WELL WORTH THE PRICE OF $9.99! Most useful app I have ever purchased!
