How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on 3.0 [redsn0w/OS X]
This guide will teach you how to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS running iPhone firmware 3.0 on using redsn0w and OS X. This is NOT for firmware 3.1. After following this guide you can unlock your iPhone 3GS using ultrasn0w.
Your iPhone 3GS should already be on firmware 3.0 before you begin.
Download redsn0w 0.8 (OS X)
Download iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0
Extract the redsnow 0.8 archive. Run redsn0w. Click Browse.

Browse to where you download the iPhone 3GS 3.0 firmware .ipsw. Select it and click Open.

After a few seconds redsn0w will tell you that your IPSW has been successfully identified. Click next.

redsn0w does some patching.

Choose your options. Click next.

Follow the directions to connect in recovery mode.

redsn0w now uploads the needed files to your iPhone 3GS.

After redsn0w is done uploading the needed files it says Done. You may click finish now. Beware your iPhone will be running the jailbreak at this time. Do not mess with it while it is working. Once it is done it will boot to the lockscreen and you will be jailbroken!

Is there a difference in jailbreaking using purplerain or redsnow? I am already jailbroken on purplerain so should i rejailbrake using redsnow or does it not matter?

Hey guys quick question, i havent been able to do my research on the new jailbreak released by the dev team because im at work;
i am using purplera1n right now and i wanted to switch over to the dev teams official release, how should i go about doing this? Should i back up, restore to stock os 3.0, and then do the dev teams version that way? Or is there another easier way to do this...
Thanks again guys for your help,
sorry if this was discussed. Ive been low on time recently.-[r]
if you can, please [thank] me if i helped you or you liked what i said! :]

Hello,
Not sure where to post this but I'm using an imac and after I download 3.0 restore I open up redsnow, click on browse I located the file that I need but when I click open another window pops up and I can't open any files only Firmware Folder so I click on it and now I can only click on DFU folder or All_Flash folder but after clicking on either one of them nothing is viewable or Redsnow won't accept. I can see other files in theses folders but they aren't clickable.
What I'm I doing wrong?
