3GS Jailbreak - redsn0w 0.8 - DevTeam Style

Im sticking with Geohot....So far a flawless problem free jailbreak on his end whereas you guys are already reporting problems with Redsn0w...

i had many a flaw with purplera1n.
i actually restored yesterday from all the problems I was having.
I am about to run redsn0w..

i trust the dev-team more.
seems like they would have been more thorough.

What's the proper way to use redsn0w if the iphone has been jailbroken by purplerain? Can I just run redsn0w or should a full restore be done first?

So i'm assuming that you use the same apple restore software that you used on the 3g with the other redsn0w, you just use the new redsn0w software for THIS jb.

has anyone tried voipover3g yet?

voipover 3g doesnt seem to be working for me. e.g in Skype. the application just crashes and quits...Fring has the same behaviour..
if i uninstall voipover 3g those apps work fine over wifi

at first i had a problm with cydia, but i just kept refreshing it and it fixed itself

I'm downloading what has to be the 3.0 firmware from the download section....but instead of a ipsw, i'm getting a zip with a whole bunch of files in it......help?

For me it was different, when I first opened Skype after instaling voipover3g, Skype told me that it does not support a modified version of the iPhone OS. Then it didn't crash, but It didn't let me call either.

EDIT: I'm gonna go with my instinct and try renaming the zip to ipsw

EDIT#2: Got "syntax of the command is incorrect" from the command prompt

Tried redsnow jailbreak on 3GS several times and it keeps stopping at waiting for reboot screen, currently been waiting 20 minutes. Don't think its going to reboot, any suggestions for anyone or is anyone having the same problems?

redsnow gets hung up on the third "waiting for reboot" never reboots.... i have an imac ppc g5 and a 32gb iphone 3gs.... i have to hold down the power and menu button to turn it back on...

Im on Vista 32bit and first time as soon as it said something about jailbreak on redsn0w the application crashed (got the program has stopped working error)

Second time it got to uploading ramdisk and crashed, the phone is working fine right now, but ill restore it just incase. What should I do?

StealthBravo reported last night in another thread that the mobilesubstrate needs some more work to fix the Tricker/Voip3G so that it will work. That is the next project Saurik will be working on so give him time.

This seems much more stable than purplera1n but I seem to have lost wi-fi anybody know how to fix this?

EDIT: Ultrasn0w seems to have been the culprit. As soon as I removed it, wi-fi came back

Going to restore and try this again, the JB is quite buggy.

just rename it and change the .zip to .ipsw

Tried that a few different ways...wasn't working.

What I ended up having to do was open it with Winzip and then choose "Save Copy As" and add the "ipsw"

went to xp same issue any ideas people?


btw trying a restore now to see if that will help anything will report back
