iPhone 3GS Unlocked!

This is kind of old news - but I realized a lot of folks may not have put two and two together.
ultrasn0w has been out for a while, and has always been known to work on the 3GS "as soon as it was jailbroken" so it could be installed - how could you install it without a jailbreak.
And now, purplera1n has jailbroken the 3GS for both Windows and OS X users.
So how do you unlock?
Easy - jailbreak from either Windows or OS X, then install ultrasn0w. Done.

Remember to turn off 3G for all the T-Mobile USA users.

DFU Restore Mode:
1. Power phone OFF. 2. Hold power + home for 10 seconds. 3. Let go of power and continue to hold home until iTunes finds the phone.

All you need to do is turn on Airplane mode after running ultrasn0w, then turn off the phone. Power it back on and then turn Airplane mode off and you should be able to use the phone without any problems. I unlocked my new 3GS last night and this is how I got it to work. The Airplane toggle will need to be done anytime the phone is power cycled as well. I am making calls, SMS, MMS, Data and WiFi flawlessly on T-Mobile.
Apples taste good.

Ultrasn0w has mixed results. Personally, it broke my Wifi and Cydia AND doesn't work.
Unless 3.1 upgraded the baseband, I'm pretty sure Ultrasn0w will still work. Assuming you can jailbreak 3.1 that is.Last edited by itaintrite; 07-05-2009 at 05:37 PM.

It broke my WiFi too until I did the Airplane mode toggle.

UltraSn0w is not supported under PurpleRain.
It should work but doesn't always - if it doesn't please don't ask at the Dev Team blog for support! He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.
