I was having the same problems. I simply re-did the entire process and I just did not install those two apps specifically.
I too can confirm that Open SSH, and 5 Icon Dock is working perfectly. I tried to install iRealSMS but I had problems, anyone else?"Once is an accident, Twice is a trend, Three times is evidence."

Just used it to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS, everything is working beautifully. Now I just have to add all my custom files. Also, I noticed that in iTunes, after I jailbroke, the section that used to be dedicated to Apps is now listed as "Other."
EDIT: Nevermind that, iTunes sorted everything out after I synced."Now everyone calm the hell down and let me think about how to clean up your mess, while you build me a monument dedicated to how awesome I am."

For those who only jailbreaked and did NOT unlock, do you notice the phone going noticeably slower on boot up or otherwise?
I am still attached to the Death Star, but I don't want to buy the 3G S to jailbreak it and have it be super slow (which would negate the "S" of the iphone 3G S of course).
