iPhone 3GS Jailbreak purplera1n Released! [Windows]

hay quick question,i did this jailbreak,so do i need to still do iBEC and iBSS thing? or just forget for now?

Finally bit the bullet. After about 5plus hours of banging my head against a brick wall - I drove 25 minutes to my moms house and used her old XP home desktop to make it ra1n. Adding further insult, it worked on the very first try, maybe a minute and a half operation.

Lost all sorts of pride, but gained a Jailbroken 3GS. Well worth it.

This is a bummer without the kernel patches. Winterboard is a crucial part of the iPhone (and I'm mainly talking about it being able to use LockInfo). I can manually theme EVERYTHING except the wallpaper and be content but I need my LockInfo ;(

Anyone, is there any way to get into the phone once using purplerain, without having an ATT SIM card to activate the phone, or am i just screwed?

after reading the ongoing posts I must say, man even if purplera1n BETA didnt work I'd still praise GEOHOTZ because he attempted to deliver what the community kept begging for.

Word of advice, don't install Categories, it breaks cydia. Not sure how to fix it now either without restoring, trying stuff.

Come on old timers... I can't remember how, but I know there was a way to add a wallpaper image to the home screen before Summerboard came out. I have some of the old themes still like Gunmetal 3,4 and Remastered. The wallpaper image was not centered. It had alot of blank area to the left of the image, but I can't remember where it goes! lol

I guess my major question is am I going to want to restore/rejailbreak my phone when ultrasn0w comes out because they have a cleaner jailbreak?

Just asking due to everyone talking about the patches the jb uses. im eager to jb my new 3gs, but i don't feel like repeating it again in 3 days or something.

You CAN NOT change this without Winterboard. This is a well known fact.

NOT TRUE!!! Before I ever used winterboard (or even summerboard from 1.x days) I simply changed every icon in the respective app's folder. I changed my carrier logos, wifi icons, signal strength, recharging battery, individial app. icons, etc. I simply used one of the guides I found on this website and found the location of EVERY single icon.png, sounds, etc and simply changed the stock image/sound with my own. So, I know it can be done (oh, and I simply SSHed into my phone and change the files)

@Simtech the way i remember doing that was to incorporate the background image into the icon.png of one of the apps. so that the icon.png file would be an image of the icon and the wallpaper behind it.

I think you're right. Some of the backgrounds I found were icon.png's for the DemoApp program. I will play with it some more and let you know.
