My 3GS did the same thing. tried win7, vista, xp pro. no luck. gets me stuck each time in recovery mode where I have to manually put it into DFU mode and do a full restore. buuuummer.

This is how jailbreaking used to be back in the 1.x days, when geohots was around more and before the dev team.

This is when it's fun and scary

just a heads up to anyone who likes the app "iMob"..... DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE RESPECT APPS. WHEN YOU OPEN THEM UP iMOB KNOWS YOU DIDNT PURCHASE THEM AND SAYS "You have attempted to trick the don, you gained 1 respect point for this.". I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY CAN FORWARD YOUR INFORMATION OR NOT. Just a heads up

Only works on Windows XP, and if it doesn't work off the bat for you even then, you have to perform various acts of black magic to get it working.

Sure, a nice small executable is good, but at least if Cydia were packaged with it, you wouldn't have to wait for an age for the iPhone to download it (mine is still downloading it 15 mins after starting!!)

I know that the dev team have been taking a lot of flak for not releasing earlier, but at least when they do, you know it will be a robust solution.

Purplera1n is great for those who absolutely must JB at the earliest opportunity (and yes, that does include me ) and are prepared to jump through hoops if necessary to get it working. But there is room for both approaches, they are not mutually exclusive - so cut the dev team some slack!
Well, I found purplera1n the easiest jailbreak I've done. I'm using Vista 32 and it did hang before rebooting...but just closed purplera1n and restarted it and it flew through. Well done GH

So people are reporting crashes on running tricker3g, voipover3g, and backgrounder? Not to mention no winterboard and buggy install, mass errors? idk but these few apps are essential. a jb without these just isnt worth it imo.

devteam put the heat on for this to be released prematurely. shouldve waited just a day or two longer and worked out the obvious.

ill continue the wait. no way im puttin this on my phone as is.

Don't install Rotations into SBSettings!! CRASH!!

purplera1n worked fine first time for me, Windows XP Home SP3.

Did the iPhone reboot, and Cydia was there.

SBSettings works fine.

hClipboard does not work - AVOID!

iRealSMS does not work, even with the supposedly 3.0 compatible version - put me into safe mode, was able to remove.

Rotations is a BIG NO-NO! Put me into an endless loop of rebooting. RockYourPhone was actually helpful in that it put phone into Recovery Mode, then I had to pull the USB connection while it was in Recovery Mode, uninstall RockYourPhone, go into iTunes and do a complete Restore.

AVOID Voicemail Forwarder: doesn't work - causes Phone app to quit!

5-row QWERTY keyboard doesn't work, but doesn't crash anything - can uninstall in Cydia.
