Well, respect to GeoHot for getting it out there, but let's be honest, purplera1n does not compete with a Dev Team release in terms of usability.
Only works on Windows XP, and if it doesn't work off the bat for you even then, you have to perform various acts of black magic to get it working.
Sure, a nice small executable is good, but at least if Cydia were packaged with it, you wouldn't have to wait for an age for the iPhone to download it (mine is
still downloading it 15 mins after starting!!)
I know that the dev team have been taking a lot of flak for not releasing earlier, but at least when they do, you know it will be a robust solution.
Purplera1n is great for those who absolutely must JB at the earliest opportunity (and yes, that does include me

) and are prepared to jump through hoops if necessary to get it working. But there is room for both approaches, they are not mutually exclusive - so cut the dev team some slack!
