It should be very quick. I'd recommend only using this on XP for the average user.

Well I have XP and what I did was run the file, the phone rebooted and came up with the itunes & usb plug screen... then closed out of purplera1n and ran it again, this time I saw the pic of geohot (the same one on the website) and the phone rebooted automatically within a minute, then I had the freeze icon and ran that which installed cydia... should be gtg after that...

i guess if you were already in recovery mode and ran the purplerain program it would go through fine, i dont think the program waits long enough for the phone to go into recovery mode to execute some commands, so the code he's injecting isn't fully uploading to the phone when it's in normal mode... im sure he'll fix this or the dev team will just release redsn0w now that there's no point in them waiting lol

tried it on XP SP3 with latest iTunes.

when connect my 3GS, run purplera1n and click "make it rain", the exe crashes with usual "encountered a prob and needs to close" blurb.

so i need to be specifically running on SP2?

For me:

iBlacklist works
MxTube and iSmart Dialer works
SBSettings works
Open SSH works

Only problem is that my Cydia icon has 'switched' to ereader's icon and MxTube has facebook. Can prob fix it thru ssh.

the Purplerain JB is CRAP, doesn't work with me and tried 5 times restoring and i'm ALWAYS stuck on the "Wait for reboot" screen!! Don't waste your time on this! And i've hear Winterboard doesn't work, you might lose your wifi signal if you use ultrasn0w, wait for a better version of it or DEVTEAM

oh and i'm using vista 32bits.

the jailbreak has worked fine but i have lost my wifi after installing ultrasn0w

i'll use it for the time being as i need the unlock for my voda sim but as soon as there's a more stable version i'll restore & install that.

u have to run freez first and that downloads cydia

put my phone in recovery, started the exe, clicked make it rain, one second later and it now says "done, wait for reboot." been waiting for 5 minutes now

also tried xp sp2 compatability mode, clicked make it rain, and it just sat there

yes, i understand that. freez runs, downloads cydia, then says its finished. when i close freez, there is no cydia to be found on my SB. I mean, sure, maybe its somewhere, but where?

How about you try installing it thru freeze and resetting your phone.

Only issue I have is with Winterboard. And that'll probably be fixed with a patch and doubtful it's an issue with the actual jailbreak, something with 3GS I guess.

Just because you can't figure it out doesn't mean it's crap or that it's because he's 16. Where you able to unlock an jailbreak the very first iPhone, turn around and trade for a new car and a handful of MORE IPHONES. Yeah didn't think so. Show some props

Did you respring aka restart your phone ? I had to reboot for cydia to show after running freeze. Cydia working great, SBS Settings working great....backrounder WORKING GREAT ... i'm flipping through web pages, email etc while streaming internet radio in the backround and it's working awesome... maybe the 150+ MB of free memory (extra 3GS cpu/memory) while im doing all this has something to do with it.... this was probably the difference between sending the phone back and keeping it for me.

Hmm, When I using winSCP It connects then I get a connection sent command 0 exit. Anyone else?

No problems here, ran purplera1n on XP sp3, had to restart freeze the first time, it froze (LOL) about a quarter in, but ran fine after I exited, rebooted and tried again. Then a reboot to see cydia. After that the only probem I have had is winterboard, and like others have said, there will be a fix coming for that eventually, saurick knows it is a problem. At least I have my 5-icon dock & springboard back and CATEGORIES!! Hurray! I have heard alot of people are losing their wi-fi after untrasn0w, but fortunately I don't need the unlock, feel bad for those who do...
