Ok, I dont know what the posts in this thread have turned into but back on topic..................I just wanted to pass along this guide:

it worked for me. Im not doubting this thread's guide, but I found this other one easier. Sorry that I cant give credit where it is due since I came across a thread that listed this website as good guide to use. I am choosing to wait for the dev team to put these files to use instead of using the newly released purplera1n from geohot.

Try this again, just 3 quick questions....
So I have done the rain and got the file from that... but I dont see a iBSS file there. The file I got was a text file. Should it be? I have also done both restores in dfu and out of dfu. Both times I got the iBEC file only. Do I need to do it one more time with the method above to get the iBSS??

Just did it the iClarified way and got the files. I got two files with the date and time today unlike people earlier on in this thread

But when I have been jailbreaking since the first touch JB and havent had to post any questions about it... and now I do... get off your high horses! Help us out a little. Everytime I download the 3.0 firmware it saves it as a zip file. When I try to unzip it it won't unzip. Is there something I'm missing???? Program or something.

Well I spent all night and this morn reading in other places than here. The only thing I can find is to rename the .zip file to .ipsw

When I get home I'm going to try this but I also downloaded it here at work and it downloaded right.

Yep, if you rename the file to just .ipsw (deleted the .zip) it will be fine.

Step Ten
That's it. We now have captured our iBEC and iBSS. You can move these to a safe place to be used for a future jailbreak of your iPhone 3GS.

Ok I am new to jailbrakeing. So I have the 3gs and not jailbroken with 3.0 FW. If I want to jailbrake still using 3.0, I have to do this? Or is this for when I want to restore back to 3.0?
I don't know if I made sence.
If some one could PLEASE help me and guide me through and explain to me what exactly this is because I really want to jailbreak while in 3.0 but would like to update to 3.1 once available.

Again, if some could explain in SIMPLE terms, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks!!!

I sucessfully applied this method to my phone and the iClarified method to a mates iphone. However, after doing it i noticed that the "date created" for his IBSS/IBEC files was the current date and the "date created" for my files is 21/5/2009. Any reason for this? and could it be a problem in the future?

Hey hi, I don't have ECID and I didn't obtain my iBEC and iBSS files. But my iphone 3GS 3.0 firmware is already jailbroken and is unclock with ultrasnow/redsnow, am I be able to jailbreak and unlock 3.1 once its release.

I'm confused about whether I need to save the iBSS and iBEC files.

I have a jailbroken, unlocked 3G S still running on 3.0. Do I need to save the iBSS and iBEC files in order to preserve the unlock when I upgrade to jailbroken 3.1. Should I save them anyway? Can I do it on iTunes 9.1, or do I have to use an old iTunes.

Finally, if I understand correctly, I will have to re-jailbreak and re-unlock in 3.0 after saving these files because the phone will be restored to the standard Apple 3.0, not the Pwnge version.

Thanks for your advice.

You cannot do this anymore, And DO NOT ATTEMPT or you will be forced to go to 3.1 and lose your unlock
