It's on the front page because it's the first of it's kind. If it was English to Spanish real-time translation, would you be questioning why it's on the front page, or are you doing so only because it's Arabic?
Anyways, this seems shady to me, as the Arabic is so fluent, it sounds like a recording of a man that it's playing back; whereas the English sounds like the generic robot voice.

Geesh people this is a cool app! Would be cool to see it in all languages but maybe in time it will be... it does a great job translating now... they might just add more languages later....
Nice article keep up the good work Sayam! Also just because I am a mod even if I was not the front page is a good place for it because there is no other app that I am aware of that can do this!

The preciseness of translation is incredible!
Hopefully they branch out to different languages also.
For traveling this app will be invaluable. You'd be surprised how many countries have large populations that speak Arabic.

...or at the amusement park, or at the grocery store, or anywhere else. I just thought it'd be nice to know what the person next to you is saying. My parents come from Laos and I barely speak their language so this would be nice.

Sakhr is an arab-based company... not sure which country, but the name is arabic... Sakhr is ROCK in arabic, or might be a surname, again not sure.
The reason they came up with the arabic translation first, is because obviously its their area of expertise... would be really pointless if 'Sakhr' comes up with an english to spanish translation, or arabic to chinese. this arises competition for other companies... hopefully soon enough there will be all kinds of languages out there.

and y wouldn't it be on the 1st page? There are many iphone users in the Arab World which would consider this a very useful app.
so why wouldn't it be as important as spanish english..etc that u mentioned above?
In addition, many people in the world today are trying to learn Arabic; so this app is very useful.Last edited by Miro89; 07-02-2009 at 06:19 AM.

Holy **** that's amazing. It's like something out of a science fiction book/ movie. That would be nice if there were an option to "Confirm" what is written so that you don't accidentally say something you didn't mean to.
