I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. My iPhones run on the following SIMs/networks: AT&T, GoPhone, H2O, O2, SimpleMobile, T-Mobile and Verizon.

There are several differences between ZiPhone and iPlus but the most significant ones are:
Key differences regarding bootloader:
The following applies to phones with 4.6 boot loader
Ziphone: downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 OTB (irreversible by sw)
iPlus: downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 FakeBlank (you can go back to 4.6
or something else at any time using software tools)
Ziphone: downgrades the bootloader when its running from the ramDISK.
iPlus: downgrades the bootloader outside the ramDISK.
ramDISK is unstable.
Note that bootloader downgrade is a tricky operation. If anything goes wrong during the process you have a good chance to end up with a bricked phone.
If you want more info about ramdisk and how iPlus works read "Something I Learned During iLiberty Development": http://george.zjlotto.com/Last edited by buzios; 03-13-2008 at 03:33 PM.

i need to upgrade 2 phones from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 and have them work with tmobile
one has BL3.9
and the other has BL4.6
what is the best way to do that...
just simply update the phones with itunes then use this program to go from there?Last edited by modbox14; 03-13-2008 at 04:50 PM.

make sure you type iplus -u. putting in the [] will not work. some people have double clicked on the batch file and it does start to run but i don't believe the process finishes. it has to be done through terminal.
i used an earlier version, iplus 1.2 to jailbreak/activate/unlock myphone and everything worked perfect. no problems and took no more than 3 minutes.
someone mentioned how this is different from ziphone. when unlocking with ziphone it downgrades your BL to 3.9 from 4.6 (if that's where your phone is) PERMANENTLY whereas iPlus downgrades a 4.6BL to a 3.9 fake bootloader so if you want to upgrade it later, you can.

On a MAC:
1 - Open a shell
2 - "cd" to the directory where you've unziped iPlus
3 - ./iplus or ./iplus -u
On Windows:
1 - Open a Command Prompt
2 - "cd" to the directory where you've unziped iPlus
3 - iplus or iplus -u
Is it that difficult?
Why do you need a GUI for something so simple that has only one option to choose?Last edited by buzios; 03-13-2008 at 03:55 PM.

I have BL 4.6. So if I jailbreak it won't change it correct. Also you only need to use the "activate" feature is when you have a new phone out of the box correct?
Last question i'm running 1.1.2 right now so i can use iPlus to go to 1.1.4 jailbroken and will i have to reinstall all my apps again. Is there a way to back up my iphone so i don't have to go in install everything over agin?
Sorry about the noobish questions.
By the way i am running a Prepaid AT&T SIM NOT the regular AT&T SIM that was pre-installed in the iphoneLast edited by nirav464; 03-13-2008 at 05:02 PM.

As it explains you are supposed to use the command line. There are just 2 options: iplus -u (for non AT&T) and iplus -j (for AT&T jailbreak only). Why do you need a GUI? Just follow the guide at the top of the thread. If you still don't feel comfortable then back away. Also, if your bootloader was on 4.6 and it's been downgraded to 3.9 with zphone then you are stuck on 3.9...

I followed this guide, but my iPhone's stuck on the ipipe console screen, just looping and looping, even thought the terminal was finished 5 minutes ago.
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance!
edit: it says 'iplus 2.0b - pass 2 starting'
should I just unplug my phone and reboot?
Anyone?Last edited by zoolander369; 03-13-2008 at 05:39 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

sounds like pass 2 didn't finish. redo it. you don't have to restore. just put the phone in dfu and iplus again. no -u necessary this time
if you only jailbreak your bootloader won't be touched
you need to activate every time you restore and/or jailbreak. if you have an ATT sim with the legit iphone plan, itunes will activate it for you, otherwise, those who unlock will need to use the activate feature.
you have to restore your phone to 1.1.4 first before you use iPlus and yes you will lose everything and have to reinstall.Last edited by jtesnani; 03-13-2008 at 06:11 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
