Open a file on this drive to drop the Temp file created by Apple when you start the DFU restore.

no no, I appreciate it. I think this phone is just a POS. battery sucks, wont sync properly, ipod crashes. The cell retailer wont do anything about it. I dont know what else to do.

side note, I'm giving up. This is just pissing me off trying to capture the iBSS that I can't copy.

Lol I just created a simple script and it copied the iBEC and iBSS automatically. I will post it for you Mac guys.

For Mac users

Create a file called iPhone.sh with the following code.

#!/bin/bash

while [ 1 ]; do
	cp -r /tmp/PersonalizedRestoreBundle.*/Firmware/dfu/* ~/Desktop
done

Put it in your home directory.

Then open up terminal and type:

sh iPhone.sh

It will run until you stop it with a cntrl+c. It will spit out errors until iTunes created both the iBSS and iBEC because obviously those files are not generated yet. Put your iPhone into DFU mode and initiate a restore. The script will automatically copy both files to your desktop and you are all set. No worries about copying the iBSS for the split second it shows up.

these instructions say to do a normal restore first, copy the folder, then do a DFU restore, copy the folder

No DFU mode creates both. You only need to do it once in DFU mode.

Has anyone gotten the mixed icons back after restoring from backup? am I safe or should I just copy my contacts over from outlook?

im so relaxed now haha for some reason i got all worked up and stressed about this lol. I guess its because ive been following this thread so long now and im anticipating too much. Hopefully we are covered for the phones life now that weve done all this.

I hope not although ive heard numerous times that if we do all this then we should be able to jailbreak no matter what down the road. I could be off base here im just going by what ive read as im not too computer savy.

lol, this was discovered by geohot first but kept quiet. Then @PlanetBeing from the Devs discovered it later and posted it....stalling tactic I dont know, But most likely the Devs are creating a tool that will somehow rely on this

quick question: when we do all this stuff, and hopefully jailbreak our iPhones, will we be able to upgrade if we've gotten all these files, or will we have to stay on 3.0 or 3.1 (whichever firmware was out when the jailbreak was released)?
