They are holding off of releasing it now, because they KNOW a firmware update is coming, and thus if it's released now, it's almost a certainty that it will be patched before enough people have a chance to buy an iphone and grab their signature files from purplera1n.com. Once apple releases 3.01 it's less likely that they'll release an update for a while.

I agree with that. Apple could patch this jailbreak with 3.0.1 and they could patch the 3.0.1 jailbreak with 3.0.2 if they wanted. IMO, not releasing the jailbreak now is just postponing the inevitable. The jailbreak is going to be released and Apple is going to patch it, whether its 3.0.1 or 3.1.2.

Who is to say for sure though? Apple has released updates specifically to break jailbreaking/unlock software in the past. Who is to say they wont release a 3.0.2 a few weeks after 3.0.1 with "bug fixes"

Not to long ago there was a chance this thing wouldn't be able to be jailbroken period, or at least not for months till someone found a new method...i'm glad to know it's possible, and that it's going to happen. I can wait, I'm just stoked my extra ram+CPU is going to get to house more mobile substrates with less lag now .

Well if the jailbreak can be broken with a software update then why wait for 3.0.1? Apple can issue update 3.0.2 right after the jailbreak for 3.0.1.

Its an endless cat and mouse. I'd rather have the jailbreak for a few weeks until Apple releases 3.0.1 and then have another jailbreak then no jailbreak for a few weeks until 3.0.1, have the jailbreak for a few weeks until Apple releases 3.0.2 and be in the same boat we are in now. Especially when 3.0.1 will be "bug fixes" that I'll bet 90% of the jailbreak community would live without for jailbreak functionality

You dont risk being stuck on the first version of a new firmware just because you are impatient and want the jailbreak and "cant wait a few weeks".

I have a brand new 32gb 3GS sitting in front of me still in the box that I cant use because I have Tmobile, and still I will patiently wait out the jailbreak. There are so many people who selfishly scream, "JAILBREAK JAILBREAK", without actually considering the down sides to pushing something out prematurely.

My ONLY concern is ultrasn0w working on the 3GS...but I know that no matter what firmware apple pushes out there will always be a way to preserve the baseband.

You guys are dumb. Apple doesn't know HOW they did it, so they hold onto it so that they see if Apple will be able to block it themselves in 3.0.1

Yeah but they dont want to release the jailbreak now cuz 3.0.1 will break it. Well if your using that logic then why release the jailbreak after 3.0.1 if 3.0.2 will break it too? Sooner or later the jailbreak will be broken, why not enjoy it now? Also, not upgrading to 3.0.1 which just has "bug fixes" isnt a huge loss. Id rather stay on 3.0 with jailbreak than 3.0.1 with no jailbreak. Im not impatient (I dont even have my 3GS yet lol) Im just saying I dont agree with the logic but then again Im not part of the dev team

I believe the Dev Team work in the best interests of the whole community.
There is no doubt that GeoHotz is exceedingly capable but he is, IMHO, a lose canon. He will release things to prove he is the best without regard for other people. If he releases a jailbreak now many people will not be able to use it the Dev team think ahead, he is young and will learn. As it is he knows he is the best and wants everyone else to know it too, most young people who are very good do.
Being young, he won't listen to anyone else because he knows best - as does everyone of his age. It's a shame, he is undoubtedly a genius and, because he is, he won't listen to others. If he worked with the Dev Team and listened to them (they are all exceedingly clever) instead of trying to prove himself better than them we would all be better off.

Having said that, we have a lot to thank him for. I doubt if he will read this, much less care for my views but I believe the Dev Team know better than him, even if he is possibly the best.

The Dev Team know how much I appreciate their work but that does not mean I don't appreciate Geo, the Chronic Dev and our own SB as well.

It's a pity they can't all work together, but I guess that's life.

PS If anyone's actually read to the end - why? I don't half talk cr*p after a few drinks

Your dumb. If they release the jailbreak for 3.0.1 Apple will know how they did it and patch it as opposed to patching it in 3.0.1. Either way they jailbreak is going to get patched, lets enjoy it now

Have you not realized yet that the dev team jailbreaks EVERY firmware released???? STFU already. There will be jailbreaks FOREVER! The game will never end. Enough with saying that 3.0.1 etc. wont be able to be jailbroken. If you know so much why dont you just figure out a way to jailbreak 3.0 3GS yourself then? Oh yeah, you dont even own a 3GS yet......

People don't realize is that knowing Apple they'll do it so that your favourite apps won't work on 3.0 so you'll have to upgrade to 3.0.1
