knowing which case could help also. most cases do a good job at doing the simple task of covering exposed areas. phone jack and dock for example. with those two areas covered,it buys you enough time to recover a phone in water.

Actually.. apple put four water sensors in the phone. there are two visible ones on the outside. one in the headphone jack and one on the bottom, but there are also two other sensors INSIDE the phone one top and bottom behind the screen.

Of course the case protected the phone. The dangerous entries are the speakers and mic. If the iPhone stays for not a long time the case definitely helped.

We don't really know for sure I guess any more than we know that "iphone 3GSS video test" clips are actually recorded on the 3GS. Really though, to make something like that up would be kinda pointless.
