iPhone 3GS Performance Results

The guys at AnandTect have run some nice tests comparing the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3G, and the Palm Pre. These tests include web loading times as well as application launch times - and come out with a pretty favorable result for the 3GS.

The new 3GS renders web pages 128% faster, on average, than the old iPhone 3G. The 45% clock speed boost alone isn't enough to generate such a large performance increase, this is a new microarchitecture. Also, note that the 3GS' performance mimics that of the Palm Pre - another Cortex A8 based phone.

its not much of a difference really... 5 extra seconds isnt a matter of life and death on browser speed... as for the dialer and all that other stuff that 1 second of speed isnt all that wow. Iphone 3g is fast enough. But seriously .. apple is AMAZING lol

my 3g s came yesterday, i upgraded from a iphone 2g, and the new one really flies.

i don't know if i would update from a 3g to a 3g s, but the change from 2g to 3g s is dramatic, speed-wise and feature-wise.

Describes my situation to a tee........Exact reason why I am waiting until the 3GS is JB before I get one. Hopefully that will be VERY soon, like within the next month!! I have a 2G and I am willing to keep my JBroken 2G until the 3GS is jBroken. I have waited this long to get off Edge, I can wait a little longer.....I think!!!!!

i dunno, i love my 3G S, its way better than the 3G. Performance gains while playing games, launching apps, browsing sites with 3G or WiFi, Rebooting time, you name it, plus all the new features.. gotta love 

I picked up my 32gb 3GS Friday and can honestly say it is waaaay faster than my 16gb 3G. Boot time, app load time, app performance. I love it! Can't wait for the jailbreak!

Seriously... this is just the TIP of the iceberg. These are stock apps. Have you guy seen the gpSPhone video? Or the performance test that guy did on the new video chip?? 50% improvement over ipod touch 2nd gen! And this is running on OpenGL 1.1, not 2.0.

If you aren't happy with that, you should sell your 3GS and get your hundreds back then.

I didn't think I'd be, but I'm a lot happier with my 3G S. On top of the performance boost, the fit and finish are much better than my 3G, although the sim tray is a bit loose...

Guess I'll be getting a new one

I would love to upgrade to the 3GS, primarily because it loads webpages so much faster. One of the main reasons I love my iphone is that it's such a superior web browser compared to any other mobile device I've used, and that extra speed takes it to a whole new level.

I don't think I can afford it though. Paid a good bit for my 16GB factory unlocked phone not so long ago.

Hopefully I'll win the lotto soon and be at the apple store first thing!

It's more impressive in real life than looking at a bunch of numbers.

I got the 3G S, and after 2 days of playing with it, it's really hard to play with the 3G. It feels like the 3G got extra slow and extra laggy after using the 3G S, but it's just because the 3G S is so much better.

Play with one for a while, and then go back to your 3G.

Mine is too tight. I had to shove the ejector tool in the hole, which hurt my fingers, to barely squeeze it out so I could grab the SIM holder.

I I could not stand posting with my 3g but I can say the S might not have a lot of web site download change but just the overall speed of the phone is great and I have not been able to crash any app like my 3g use to. No facebook crash no safari crash no game crashes. I love my 3gs
