[Windows] How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G Firmware 3.0 with RedSn0w

well that sucks it must not work for 3.0 then but i will say when i updated to 2.2.1 it worked but took a reasonable amount of time to do so!


can you just save the file to your desktop and extract using winzip or whatever you have?

I am computer illiterate. I have no clue wtf Winzip even is.

I just want the damn files to open so I can jailbreak the stupid phone. I'm starting to think it isn't even worth the trouble. 3 hours and I can't even get the programs downloaded.

google winzip or google .zip and download an app that will unzip whatever your trying to unzip.

But now in the middle of the process following holding the buttons, redsnow stopped working and closed. Now I have to restore my phone and try again.

Those of you having issues with hang time on the reboot phase, you may be using the 2g firmware (I was, I know, I know, stupid). You should be using the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore, not the iPhone 1,1_3.0_7A341.

Also, those of you Vista users having it freeze up in the middle. Try a different USB port. If that doesn't work, try a different computer. I had to use my brothers desktop (even though it runs the same version with the same service pack that I have, so it may be a driver issue).

This question is for anyone who has successfully jailbroken their phone on 3.0. Do the themes for winterboard work? I heard rummmors that there is a problem with the blank icons (that they weren't blank on 3.0 for some reason). My theme has a lot of blank icons and im worried about not being able to use my theme. anyone have info? thanks

I have been having issues getting the firmware via ZIP files since yesterday. I've extracted two and neither worked. RedSn0w didn't recognize the firmware when I found it. I also tried to restore my phone to the firmware and it gives me an error via iTunes.

I got similar errors trying to install bossprefs. I'm guessing a lot of the appz aren't 3.0 ready yet. I'm just kicking back and having some patience i know these things take time.

Somebody help me!

I open redsnow and hit browse then click on the firmware file. iphone1,2blahblahblah.ipsw. It shows it as a zipped fil and when I click on it to select it as the file to open, it says "No searches matched." Showing an empty folder.


If I try to extract the files from the folder it pops up messages saying that a file already exists under that name.

What am I doing wrong?

Extract it with that It is shareware, but you can use the evaluation copy just fine. I had the same issue on Windows 7, but this fixed it.

Right click the redsnow zip and select winrar to open it.
When winrar opens click the extract icon on the top, leave the rest of the settings alone and let it do its thing.

If your redsnow.zip is on your desktop then winrar will create a new folder on your desktop and unzip it to there. If the zip file is in your documents it will unzip the file there etc etc.

Honestly i couldnt tell you, a reason that it might not is the texting setup is a bit different; if that changed the text files in e phone im not too sure. Maybe someone else will know. i hope you find a true answer. Sorry im not much help.

Good god, if you don't know what Winzip is, please just stop all attempts to jailbreak your phone because you probably don't know what that means either. Hang up the towel, leave the forum, buy a Mac since you obviously aren't familiar with Windows either, run iTunes on that, and update your phone to regular old basic 3.0. Problem solved. People who are 'computer illiterate' have no need to jailbreak.

Everyone at one point didnt know what any of this one but they started learning and gradually came to what they know now.
Everyone wasnt "smart" about this stuff at one point.

yo guys when i extract redsnow its asking me to replace files and crap so i clicked skip and than a bunch of yes's. now when i used the program, it was successful until the phone went on to downloading jailbreak date and its just stuck there for like 10 min. now it goes to the connect to itunes screen. SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!

No good dude, I tried it 5 times. Had the timing right. Just hangs on 'waiting to reboot' I even went and mowed the lawn while I waited. How long does it take to reboot. more than 30 minutes? Even restored again. Are you sure it works?
