[Windows] How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G Firmware 3.0 with RedSn0w

I know it says to wait for ultrasnow if I want to unlock, but I don't need to unlock until January 2010 when my contract runs out. So if I use this redsnow method to jailnbreak now, does that mean I will never be able to unlock with ultrasnow? Or just not until ultrasnow arrives?

I think we are setting ourselves up for disappointment if we expect the stupid questions not to happen.

In this case, stupid questions are the ones that get asked despite some great documentation. Careful research can save fits of fear and aggravation all around. Follow these guides carefully and you will do OK. Good luck and if you have questions after reading everything, the community ois very supportive and will answer it all. Above all, don't panic. Many have done this before and we are here to help.

Mine gets stuck on "waiting for reboot" What can I do? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Once you have downloaded everything, extract redsn0w-win_0.7.1.zip to a location on your computer. You should see redsn0w.exe. Run it.

Click Browse.

Browse to where ever you downloaded your iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware .ispw, select it, and click Open.

RedSn0w tells you that the ISPW has been successfully identified. Click next.

You'll see a little window that says patching kernal for a second.

Select Install Cydia and click Next.

Plug in your iPhone 3G and turn it off. Once it is off click Next.

RedSn0w gives you instructions. We are entering DFU mode now. First hold the power button for 3 seconds.

Keep holding the power button and start holding the home button for 10 seconds.

Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 30 seconds.

RedSn0w does its thing. Let it.

Finally RedSn0w has finished loading everything onto your phone. You will see a pretty screen on your phone as it is being Jailbroken. Don't mess with your phone will all this is going on. After your phone restarts you are done!

keep getting the "waiting to reboot" screen. it just hangs there. already tried restoring directly from itunes. any ideas?

Jailbroke phone fine but when i try to install an application I get an error message that says....

The application "At Bat 2009" was not installed on your the iPhone "Marius' iPhone" because an unknown error occured (0xE8008001).

Then I can click OK or More Information

The link below is the website that it takes me to if I click more information. Any ideas? And thanks in advance for your help.

Anyone install Mobile Substrate and then try opening iTunes to purchase a song? It doesn't work. If you uninstall Mobile Substrate it works again.

I open redsnow and hit browse then click on the firmware file. iphone1,2blahblahblah.ipsw. It shows it as a zipped fil and when I click on it to select it as the file to open, it says "No searches matched." Showing an empty folder.

If I try to extract the files from the folder it pops up messages saying that a file already exists under that name.

What am I doing wrong?

I have been having issues getting the firmware via ZIP files since yesterday. I've extracted two and neither worked. RedSn0w didn't recognize the firmware when I found it. I also tried to restore my phone to the firmware and it gives me an error via iTunes.

I am having the same problem. If I extract zip files I get a bunch of different folders. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again for any help

you need to use firefox and click on the links in the directions to use redsn0w if u use firefox it will not download into a zip file hope that helps, but i will also add if u use swirlymms to mms message do not use redsn0w or any other jailbreak because swirly has not updated to 3.0 OS yet wish i would have known before going to 3.0

Yes but when I download via Firefox it sets the downloaded file to automatically open via iTunes. What should I change that to? What program should I open redsnow with.

Im so confused. Maybe I'll just try IE or something.

well that sucks it must not work for 3.0 then but i will say when i updated to 2.2.1 it worked but took a reasonable amount of time to do so!

can you just save the file to your desktop and extract using winzip or whatever you have?

im on my 5th try an still gettin same error, im following the guide exactly as it says grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr wish id of just stayed with 2.2.1 now
