[ NEW ] redsn0w - Multi-Platform Jailbreak/Unlock Tool

DON'T USE THIS IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING YELLOWSN0W AND WANT TO KEEP YOUR UNLOCK. ultrasn0w will be out soon and then you can do this.

Here's the rundown:

• Runs on Windows.
• Runs on OS X (Intel only, but they are working out a bug to have PPC support up shortly)
• JAILBREAKS iPhone 3G.
• JAILBREAKS and UNLOCKS iPhone 2G.
• DOES NOTHING to iPhone 3GS.
• JAILBREAKS iPod Touch 2G.
• JAILBREAKS iPod Touch 1G.

We're working on guides on how to run this puppy, but its fairly self-explanatory. Expect full detailed instructions from us today (read: in the next hour or two for some of the guides).

A few important things to know:

• DO NOT run this if you are running less than 3.0 on an iPhone 3G and are using yellowsn0w to unlock. You WILL lose your unlock, and since the 3G 3.0 unlock (ultrasn0w) has not been released yet, you'll be stuck with no phone UNTIL ULTRASN0W IS RELEASED.
• This tool (redsn0w) should be used AFTER doing a stock restore first. Just open up iTunes, and press restore. You'll be restored to the latest firmware (iPod Touch users of course will need to pay for 3.0 if you haven't) and THEN can run redsn0w.

MuscleNerd notes:

If you have useless locked 3G with original sim that iTunes still recognizes, may as well update to 3.0 & JB and use it as Touch til ultra

I feel like an idiot, I download the Restore.ipsw zip file and when I extract it to a folder I get folders and file icons NOT the "cube with the music note". What am I doing wrong? Can someone please help me as I will be using redsnow with my 2G. Thank you!!!!!!

hey SR852.... you may be downloading from safari??? if so, try firefox..... safari wants to auto-decompress files after downloaded and does it to ispw files as well


PS.... i read yesterday you might be able to right click and "recompress" dont know for sure, havent tried it myself.....

works great on my Windows Vista PC ......just right click the EXE and select Run as Admin

IMPORTANT

Many people are having similar issues, and is causing many threads to be opened, I myself am having the issues aswell, and would like some help please.

Issue (This may be added to the main page)

redsn0w 0.7.1, iPhone 2G (may also be for 3g) hangs on a black empty screen when the jailbreak is running (after the ipod had been put in dfu mode)
it either displays "waiting for reboot" Or "Done!", but the iphone remaines on the black empty screen.

Mines did the same thing. I've jailbroken my phone many times including others. This is my first time having this issue. I'm about to restore to Stealth Bravo's custom 3.0. After that, I'll retry and let you know how it turns out.

This might have been asked before, but whats with the 3GS that it cant be jailbroken? All these threads say "NOT" for 3GS"...so I was just wondering if anyone knew why or if the Dev team has said why it doesn't work on the 3GS..Thanks

Same here, I installed OpenSSH and updated Cydia but it just keeps crashing when I open it
