If you're using an iphone 3G just do a "restore" using iTunes (you can even do Shift + Restore and browse to the original 3.0 firmware.... so iTunes doesnt have to download the 3.0 firmware in case you already have it). Once the factory 3.0 firmware its installed you can try again. (same thing happened to me the first try) second time around redsnow got the work done....
Good luck

People just need to read sometimes, this is a forum, and it is based on replies that are text, and these replies contain information that must be read, or else it will be restated the same way, with text. Either way no one likes to repeat, no one wants to repeat a questions when ignored, and no one likes to reanswer when ignored, so if people would just read.
Anyways, concerning redsn0w. Can only say, did it successfully the third time. If they just said it was suppose to be in dfu the first time, woulda been successful the first time, lol. Instead its like power down, click next, oh put it in dfu you by doing this, and the counter is already going off for you to follow, lolz. Tried to follow that, didn't work as well as just putting it into dfu the way I already know how to do. Anyways, I think that's the trickiest part, everything else is straight forward.
Also saw a post regarding downloading the ipsw, just my input on that, because I had the same problem using IE8, it downloads it automatically as a zip file, you just gotta rename the extension to .ipsw, and you're set, no decompression needed. Just thought I'd through that out for IE8 users still having trouble downloading ipsw files.

I read all the comments on 6 pages and I couldn't go any further.
People that ask questions with very obvious answers and want others to spoon feed them the answer just piss me off
You people need to read and search before you post a question that has already been answered *shakes head*

Do you have any security settings set for rules about opening zip files? (if the answer is I don't know, then you don't).
Are you trying to open this on an unsupported operating system such as Me, 98, Xp, Vista, 7, etc? What are you trying to use it on? It supports Windows 7 fine from my experience in VMware.
Try to re-download because you may have not gotten it all and it might be corrupt.iMac 27" i5 quad 2.8Ghz (1TB), MacBook Pro 17" 2.6, iPhone 4s

Actually tried once, and stopped when I realized it wasnt a good idea, Helped a couple thousand people yesterday(not only on MMI), and I seemed to listen to everyone...but ok. Not here to fight like some people. I know your type, you sit on the computer all day blogging and ranting about nothing. Then when someone doesnt share the same opinion as you, you go off the deep end with insults. Sorry OG for stepping on your ground...I will no longer respond to anything you say, you are GOD!

I prefer quickpwn over this. I just jailbroke with it and I was pretty bummed when I saw only "Install Cydia". Plus I have to look at the terrible apple logo for a boot up.
Eh heh. EH HEH...
