UGH! This is such BS! Some of you need to realize that not EVERYBODY on this forum is a huge brainiac. Even though we DO read what the first post says its not that clear. YES it does say it jailbreaks 3g but some people may be confused because it doesnt say iPhone 3g 3.0.

I downloaded the file both through internet explorer and firefox and both gave me a zip file. It gave me two folders one that says _MACOSX and one that says redsn0w-win_0.7.1 . In the redsn0w folder I tried to run the redsn0w and it tells me that I need to go to a site to require a license I tried to go to that address and it tells me "this topic does not exist yes" then I tried to run the program in the MACOSX folder and it brings up a DOS window and tells me that Ive encountered an illegal instruction. Whatever that means. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Dont explain to me like Im an idiot but like Im a bright 8 year old. Thank you.

*Sigh*.... 3g T-Mobile user here, still waiting for ultrasn0w. I can't really do anything with all these cool new toys / software until that comes out.

I was waiting by my computer all day yesterday (Friday) hoping it would come out on time. oh well

i hane an iphone 3g by england with 2.2.1...i use ismartphone sim unlock card to unlock my card.so....if i restore to os3 can i use then the redsn0w??

So, am I right in thinking that if I used redsn0w to jailbreak my iphone 3G, running the 3.0 OS now, I'll still be able to use my phone on my official o2 contract that I bought it with, BUT I'll still have the option to unlock it with ultrasn0w at a later date once it is released?

Yes, from my understanding.

#1 GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.

#2 Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).

So you will need your phone jailbroken to get the UltraSn0w unlock when released.

*iDevice Hangs during jailbreak
*Solution: Right-click redsn0w.exe and clcik "Run as Administrator"

*Cydia isn't working correctly for some.
*Solution 1: Restore to stock, then re-jailbreak
*Solution 2: Restore to stock, wait for QuickPwn

I'm not sure if I completely understand your question. If you upgrade to 3.0, your ismartphone sim will no longer work to unlock the phone. For the iPhone 3g, redsn0w is simply used to jailbreak, not unlock. You can run redsn0w at anytime on your 3g, but it will only jailbreak it. If you need to unlock your phone I would hold off on using redsn0w until ultrasn0w(soft-unlock) is released.

EDIT: Ok for some reason (i'm a retard for not seeing it the first time) the .IPSW, i downloaded, while clicking on the link for the iphone 3g, still downloaded the 2G .IPSW, i downloaded the right one. (iPhone 1,2) Restored from that .ipsw and re jailbroke. and it worked. Just posting this because it might work for others..

i didnt have to use this i just downloaded a custom restore and used that and its works fine. and my 2g is unlocked and JB.

This might have been asked before, but whats with the 3GS that it cant be jailbroken? All these threads say "NOT" for 3GS"...so I was just wondering if anyone knew why or if the Dev team has said why it doesn't work on the 3GS..Thanks

there is never gonna be a release "date" ever again from the devteam. they learned their lesson with the yellowsn0w release.

Runs on Windows.
Runs on OS X (Intel only, but they are working out a bug to have PPC support up shortly)
JAILBREAKS iPhone 3G.
JAILBREAKS and UNLOCKS iPhone 2G.
DOES NOTHING to iPhone 3GS.
JAILBREAKS iPod Touch 2G.
JAILBREAKS iPod Touch 1G.

the funny part is the person who asked the question will never see that.
