How to Jailbreak/Unlock/Activate iPhone 2G on 3.0 Firmware - PwnageTool
This guide will show you how to jailbreak, unlock, and activate firmware 3.0 on the iPhone 2G (not the iPhone 3G, not the iPhone 3G S) all at once using a custom .ispw created with PwnageTool 3.0.
You need to download PwnageTool 3.0 and the iPhone 2G 3.0 firmware file.
Note: Safari does not download the .ipsw files correctly - it decompresses them as soon as they're downloaded. We don't want that. Use Firefox to download the .ipsw, not Safari. Or you can ctrl+click the decompressed folder & click the compress button.
Connect your iPhone 2G to iTunes and sync it (you will want that back up later)

Note: restoring will remove all Jailbreak app settings and WinterBoard themes. You can back that all up following this guide if you want to.
Once you have downloaded the firmware file and PwnageTool run PwnageTool. OS X my ask you if you really want to run it, choose open.

Hit OK to the Copyright

Since we are jailbreaking, unlocking, and activating the iPhone 2G click the iPhone on the left, make sure you have Expert Mode elected in the top left, and click the arrow in the bottom right.

PwnageTool will search for the correct .ispw (you downloaded it earlier). It will probably find it but if it doesn't you can browse to where ever you downloaded it. Once you have your firmware file selected, click the blue arrow button.

Select General and hit the next arrow.

Make your screen look like the one below (default root partition size should be fine, I changed mine, the larger partition you have the more Cydia room . . . ). Hit the next arrow.

Make sure the options I have checked match. You can update the bootloader if you'd like. Hit the next arrow.

Hit the next arrow.

Select (or un-select
) the package installer(s) you want. If you un-select both don't bother continuing. Hit the next arrow

Change logos if you'd like then hit the next arrow.

Now select Build and hit the next arrow.

Choose a place to save your custom .ispw that you'll remember.

It starts building your custom .ispw.

Enter in your password when prompted.

If your iPhone is pwnd and you are selecting Yes you can continue to iTunes further down in the guide. If your iPhone is not pwnd currently or you are not sure hit No.

Follow the instructions.

Hit Ok.

Close PwnageTool and start iTunes. Hold down the option key while you click restore.

Browse to, and select your custom .ispw.

iTunes does its thing.

Hit OK.

After your iPhone restarts BootNeuter will run to unlock and activate your iPhone. Don't mess with it while it is doing its thing. Once complete you can connect to iTunes and restore settings from back up or set it up as a new phone
Congrats you're done and have a jailbroken unlocked iPhone 2G on 3.0 firmware!

I got an error (10) and it cancels.
This is what I'm working with:
2g iPhone
10.5.7 OS X
iTunes 8.1.1 (I think this may be the problem) I'm going to see if Itunes 8.2 works

It's confirmed, you need to use iTunes 8.2 in order for this to work!
