iPhone 3G S vs. iPhone 3G vs. Palm Pre Speed Test
This just popped up in my feeds. CNet did some completely unscientific speed testing comparing the iPhone 3G S, the iPhone 3G, and the Palm Pre. While some of the tests are entirely based on signal strength its still fun to watch while waiting for some jailbreak and unlock action!
The Power on Test- Winner - iPhone 3G S at 19.34 seconds!
- Second - iPhone 3G at 48.18 seconds
- Last - The Palm Pre turned on in a dismal 1 minute 46.35 seconds
The Load a Webpage Test- Winner - Palm Pre at 23.11 seconds
- Second - iPhone 3G S at 35.54 seconds
- Last - iPhone 3G at, uh never. It was on edge

The Take a Picture and Send it via Email Test- Winner - Palm Pre at 40.32 seconds
- Second - iPhone 3G S at 54.03 seconds
- The iPhone 3G wasn't test since it was on edge

Of course there are many other things that speed would matter with that weren't tested but in CNet's unscientific competition the Palm won 2 out of three

Erm yeah...How about we do a test in a location where the 3G lives up to its namesake?

Yeah, well, as stated before, they are very unscientific results. However, the iPhone will have something that the Palm will never have: a huge jailbreak community that results in almost unlimited customizations/apps/improvements to any smart phone; in fact, no other smart phone out there has such a huge and skilled jailbreak community (correct me if I am wrong...)

It's like comparing the speed of a grey hound with a horse; totally different classes of phones. First, they are on different carriers, second the carriers are different in bandwidth (CDMA and GSM), third, AT&T has not rolled out their faster 3G speed yet, so inherently Sprint will win the internet speeds no matter what.Last edited by llescaflownell; 06-18-2009 at 10:33 PM.

I've Got Both Phones.
I have done the test over WiFi and Network.,..
Hate to tell all of you this but the pre wins hands down.
and the boot up speed is half of that .. something was wrong with her phone.
and and and who honestly turns off their phone until they need to make a call?
seriously, admit defeat.

updated to what? Sprint is already updating to 4g it will never be faster..
i admit, there is no way the pre will beat the iphone..
but c'mon it's got it's perks.
multitasking
keyboard
OTA sync
and push gmail and yahoo both.
i love apple and iphone. but competition makes progression.
