It kinda sucks that you can't tether a wifi connection to a PC without a wireless network adaptor. I tried it and my IP was my Optus one and not my ISP's.

you need to install the ippc file using itunes 8.2 pre-release

I know a work around if you a mac user, this allows you to use custom ippc files with itunes 8.2 simply open terminal enter the command.

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

And its works just fine with any ippc but anyway my question is does anyone have the ippc file for t-mobile uk? I'm currenly using a o2 sim and works fine with tethering using the updated ippc file. If anyone has a link or wants to message me the t-mobile uk file that would be amazing thanks in advance.

Cheers!

BenM.at is hosting TONS of iPhone tethering configuration files for many many networks across various countries.

Simply browse to help.BenM.at/help.php via Safari on your iPhone

That's it, Now just browse to Settings->General->Network->Internet Tethering->On and you have tethering.

Click the image to open in full size.

Note: at the time of this writing tethering is still working for AT&T even though they said it would not work. Here's hoping that AT&T doesn't prevent this overnight!

thx to iClarified for pointing out BenM.at
This does NOT work on tmobile.

Ok, I was able to fix this issue... to let everyone or anyone who ever run into this issue... if you have PDANET installed on your iphone even after upgrading to 3.0, verify that the router is off, because that was actually giving my phone a 169.254.x.x ip address instead of one from the phone itself in which should turn to a 192.168.x.x . So just becarefull of that due to this had me working my brain for almost 2 nights now on what was wrong.

P.S. I actually repost to this using the tethering from the iphone... I also notice that the phone will keep you connected in sleep mode as well. I notice with pdanet, after a while in sleep mode you will loose connection and charging... was worthless cause it still eats away at your battery life very fast. Compared to the iPhone... I notice tethering this way it's actually charging the phone and not eating it away, but I will keep my eye on it and update due to that phone is halfway charged at the moment.

Minitrk, I notice you said you are able to get mms working, are you able to send mms messages? The reason I ask this is because I also installed the ippc file using itunes, I'm able to see the cellular data network and also edit it, but not sure what is suppose to be the correct settings, cause I'm unable to send mms messages. Any info on your data or help with be greatly appreciated or anyone else in this case...

Don't know if this has already been posted, couldn't see it in this thread anyways. But help.BenM.at has been updated and it now allows you to create your own mobile config files. I tried it and it worked... this method leads to no VVM problems what so ever because you enter the settings before hand. I think the VVM APN is acds.voicemail, you leave username and password blank.

Should I just use it and if I get a bill for it just say I never setup tethering?

They can tell and prove you were tethering, lying would just get you in more trouble.

Again, the only way you'll end up with a big bill if you get caught is if you abuse the hell out of tethering. Keep your usage light and you'll go by unnoticed.

After trying this on my new iPhone 3G[S], I have lost 3G networking, switching on Internet Tethering results in the iTunes Syncing. Turning off Internet Tethering results in iTunes Syncing again.

The skinny here is DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO SCREW UP YOUR PHONE!

Probably.

Here in the UK O2 charge £14/ month for 3Gb of data for tethering - if they charge you by the Mb then $50,000 is about right.
