I don't believe it will run faster on a 3G iphone since the claim for better performance is with the new 3Gs. You just get the increased functionality by having the 3.0 firmware on any iPhone.

3.0 GM beta runs fast and great. This feature is for all those CRAPPY 'third party' apps out there on the app store that hang or crash or lock up. great feature. Muchly needed for those apps made by devs who don't test their crap. Thanks Apple!

Speaking of the 19th does anyone know what courier apple uses to ship?
I drive for UPS, and I know it's not us. I asked the at&t rep yesterday the same question and he said "FedEx".

Ermm well. The first coupla builds were much laggier than 2.x but after running the GM on my spare iPod touch, it seems to be much quicker, haven't had a chance to try out all the new features yet. I do like the new scrubbing speed selector!!!

It seems to be a bit slower than 2.2.1 on my iPhone 3G. I did a clean restore to 3.0 but it still feels slightly slower. It is certainly nothing like the difference between 1.1.4 and 2.0 was when everyone upgraded last summer (2.0 was unbelievably slow and buggy). I will say that my battery seems to drain faster than it did on 2.2.1. However, I think these two problems are relatively minor and well worth the new features. I am also confident that Apple will tweak the speed of firmware 3 with future updates.

The one other thing I will add is that the GM build of 3.0 seems to be very stable. I am pleasantly surprised after the disaster that was the initial release of 2.0.

Or if you have 3.0 jailbroken you can kill tasks through Mobile Terminal with the "killall" command. the only downside is that not all apps are called the same as they show in spring board such as the phone it's called "MobilePhone" !

It may not be, that doesn't mean it is unwise to still allow for things like this. The titanic was supposed to be unsinkable. We all know how that went! :P

It didn't work for me. I'm running the 3.0 release and it just turned off my phone. The screen flashed all white like a screen shot then shut off immediately.
