Here's a cute little newly announced feature of 3.0 - Find My iPhone. Users who have the 3.0 firmware and MobileMe will be able to log in to MobileMe, see a map with their iPhone's physical location, and send a message to the iPhone instructing whoever has it to call a number.
And you can use a Remote Wipe feature to erase all data on your iPhone, and restore it to factory settings. Here's hoping Apple never decides to take over the world....

So they have taken what localis have been doing for a year or so then.
I thought they said background apps take power....this is a background app! Oh silly me of course they just mean they don't want to let the user decide what they run in the background

sell ur phone on craigslist and erase it everyday
DFU Restore Mode:
1. Power phone OFF. 2. Hold power + home for 10 seconds. 3. Let go of power and continue to hold home until iTunes finds the phone.

Wouldn't this be better if you could shutdown/lock the phone remotely once you get it's location? WIping it just makes it shiny new for whoever has/finds it.

I have a bigger fear of dropping my phone instead of losing it or having it stolen .

been able to wipe blackberry smartphones for years... it's actually a great feature when you r device contains sensitive material. glad to see that apple has improved on the system by allowing you to track your phone... i don't think people really appreciate the time and talent put into something like this.
