You got the prices wrong though...
I just went on the apple website to order the new iphone and this is what I got:
$299.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
$399.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
$499.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
I used the option to replace my current phone with the new iphone and I have a 8gb 3g and my contract doesn't expire until next year.

As a valued AT&T customer, AT&T can offer you an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. You may qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade on 01/23/2010.
* $399.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
* $499.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

So I just got off the phone with a rep. Cancellation for me is $125. Reactivation is $36.
$125 + $36 + $299 (32GB) = $460....
Suck it Apple/Cingular.Last edited by Bleeditout2130; 06-08-2009 at 04:20 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I still have a first Gen iPhone because we do not have 3G where I live.
Why wouldn't someone go to Apple.com, or an apple store, buy a 3GS, and drop their sims card in it?
You can buy someone an iPhone as a gift on apple.com.
You have to go around AT&T to get the good price.
I MUST upgrade because my battery is dying in my old iphone.
Oh, and this is my 9th iPhone in my hand! I have paid for my original iPhone, and $150 to replace one I dropped in my drink.

This is very disappointing. I was looking forward to a better looking version of this phone. Apple is really showing some greed and stupidity with this phone. I have the 8gb model and I wanted to upgrade to the 32gb model. This definitely make me reconsider doing so. Damn you Apple.

The S is for S***!
Seriously... Apple needs to follow up on these rumors *cough* front camera & iChat capabilities *cough* cause really, I don't see this as being worth the money. I'm sure they could have released all these features in a simple update like they were going to do with the video feature. Im ashamed... all the rumors are fake... im going to go to bed now. (4:57)ALL THEY DO IS DRINK, SMOKE DOPE, AND TELL JOKES TO THE OLD FOLKS

The best value of this whole experience will be the current 3G models for $99 . THAT is a heck of a deal on a new phone.

I guess Im the only one that feels this way but why should you get a price break on the new phone if your contract isn't up? Just because we own iPhones we should get special treatment? Sorry, that's life stop whining about it and pay the extra $$ if you want the "new" iPhone.
If you bought the first iPhone when it came out you should be due for an upgrade anyway.... I am on July 17th.Last edited by rkswat; 06-08-2009 at 04:09 PM.

It does look like there might be some better discounts/early upgrades depending how far along you are. I have had my iPhone 3G for 11 months and when I attempted to place an order for the iPhone 3G(S) today, it said I was eligible for an "early upgrade".
The pricing I was given online was:
$399 for the 16GB + $18 Upgrade Fee
$499 for the 32GB + $18 Upgrade Fee
It said I was eligible for the "Standard iPhone Upgrade" which I assume will be the full discount, in January of 2010, which will be 18 months of service for me.
At least it wont be a full two years!

They're called HTC.
Anyway, I'm sticking with my 3G. It's not worth $700 bills to add a efing "S" and a compass, especially when I know where I'm at all the time, have a Lensatic at the ready if "need" be, and I'm not a Buffalo hunter, so wandering around the woods isn't something I'm concerned about(PS: You have a 3G, so take a few steps and let the GPS tell you your cardinal direction. duh)
Just another year of Apple disappointments. I'm seeing a trend here. I can't wait til next June to anticipate another let-down. yay! :/
