Check this out... I just looked at my account and this is what is says...

    iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 07/23/2009

What a valued ATT&T customer they will offer me a upgrade higher price? What a joke! I am no valued customer.... if they valued me they sure would not be charging me the prices for the 32 GB that they want... I would spit nails right now I am so p***ed!

It's cheaper to pay the early termination fee of $175 and then "rejoining" AT&T to get the cheaper price. What a bunch of stooges.

Sometimes the comments here are quite hilarious. What other phone maker out there is going to drastically make cosmetic changes to their flagship device every single year? Also to those complaining about the no price break for existing 3g owners, why should their be one? What good is a 2 year contract if everyone is allowed to break it every year? What other phone service provider allows this? Regardless the 3GS is hardly an upgrade for us 3g users anyways. /rant.

The F***ers know they won't gain anything by letting 3G owners upgrade. They know that 90% of people upgrading will be 1st Gen iPhone owners since theyre contract will be done. Then they can secure the users for 2 more years. They really don't give a S*** about customers and loyalty. Well guess what you're still losing tons money by not selling all those iPhones for $200 and not selling refurb versions of the 3G.

How much is it to cancel and resign up? $175 + $299 - only $475 then haha.

    F**kers.
Was thinking this myself! LOL Cancel and then go buy a new one! LOL

Hopefully they will change this. Why would they do that for existing 3G customers. When the 3G came out (a year after the 2G) they gave 2G customers discounted prices. Why wouldn't they keep doing it.. I'd say most of their customers that have a 3G would like to upgrade to the 3GS... but it so expensive, like TheToothFairy said, not everyone can dish out 600-700 dollars these days.

    ITS NOT $599 & $699!!!!!!!!!!!!

So for people on AT&T with iPhone 3g:
iPhone 3GS 16 GB is $399 with reup to 2 years.
iPhone 3GS 32 GB is $499 with reup to 2 years.

The cheaper pricing $199 & 299 is only for NEW customers to AT&T (or people done with their 2 year contract)

Look what I saw on the Apple website:

    Download the 3.0 Software Update.

    Available June 17.
I'm more excited for the firmware release than the 3G S.

    EDIT: Here's the link:

Existing iPhone 3G owners will have to pay approximately $200 over subsidized pricing to upgrade
Which I think is fair since current iphone 3G owners will not only be getting out of their subsidized phone price and keeping that phone, but getting a new one as well. No problem by me, I'll pony out the $500.

As far as the new iphone : http://www.modmyi.com/forums/general...ml#post3896521

Neener, neener... told ya so. I knew what they were doing months ago.

I think we are all upset with the no price break is because last year there was on... and many thought they would do the same thing this year.... and no matter what... if they did give us a price break again this year we would still be in their contract for the two years... more or less if we kept getting price breaks we would always be with AT&T until the dev's do what they need to do so others could go to TMobile....

"REQUIRES a new 2 year agreement for those prices. Upgrading AT&T users will pay $599 for the 16GBor $699 for the 32GB, even if you're replacing an iPhone 3G."

You have to be ******* kidding me, I am not paying $700 ******* dollars plus TAX to upgrade, where the hell is apple justifying this? Hell I won't even pay over $300 for the new 32GB 3GS.

They know current 3G owners, especially 3G owners who develop software as well are going to want to upgrade EXTREMELY BAD like myself

read 3 posts up newb. if you're going to be here new and complaining at least read the thread, eh? If you won't pay over $300 for a 32gb iphone you are exactly the person apple was trying to keep away from the iphone when the first gen came out @ $500 premiums... sometimes I wish they still were.

My wife has a first gen out of contract now, so she's get an S in a couple weeks, but no way I'll pay their ripoff fees to upgrade my 3g.

i could go either way with this... having been in wireless sales with 5 years experience I think that it opens providers up to a world of churn. the price point does not need to insult existing customers and I think that is what they have done. drastically reducing the current cost for upgrading users and imposing a higher "upgrade" fee settles in your stomach a little better than getting hit with the ludicrous price on top of the commitment thats both welcome and unavoidable, on top of the upgrade fee that is just kinda tacked on there to mock u. poorly thought and executed by at&t. after all paying almost average $2000 during the lifetime of the phone's contract for inadequate service hurts enough.

Let me start by saying HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I told you all didn't I? The new iPhone is exactly what I said a new iPhone would be: minimal upgrades here and there for an all around better experience. But noooo, like every year you all bought every retarded rumor the Internet spewed at you and raised your expectations to impossibly high levels. The backlash to this new iPhone is some if the most hilarious reading this year.

PS: reason 3G owners get to pay full price is because you go the 3G at a subsidized cost with a 2yr contract. When you bought the original, it wasn't subsidized so they were ok with it. However, you can't expect to get a 2ns subsidized phone less than a year after getting one NOONE anywhere allows that.

    With that said: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
