the iphone monthly plan + add on line is $40.00 total. So if you got the iphone on your new line, you have one month to decide whether or not you like the phone. If you dont like it, you return it, and you have the option to cancel your plan. If you wait longer than a month, you're $9.99 add on line is locked in for 2 years. As far as what PHONE you are using on that line, it doesnt matter (to the best of my knowledge).

to those who really want it at a reduced price... just cancel your old contract (mine cost me 130 bucks to cancel after 8 months of paid service). Save you a ton of money, probably more than it saved those who just wanted an upgrade price. Sure I will have to sign another 2 year, but it is like 450 bucks versus 700 bucks.

What I meant is...could I keep the plan long enough to be able to keep the new iPhone, but then cancel the iPhone data plan on that line and use the new iPhone on my primary line...Know what I mean?

Ok, i am wondering if the 32GB model is really something I need. I got the original iPhone model and my carrier (O2 in the UK) has been pestering me since Jan to upgrade. I was however waiting for the new iphone this summer. A friend of mine sold me the 16GB 3G model for £200 (around $300) and i was happy to take it and sell my 1st G 8GB model on ebay for like £220. That was a good deal. Anyhow, now I am wondering if its worth upgrading just for the better camera and higher battery life..and the 32GB model. I assume we will all get the video recordingw ith teh 3.0 FW update anyway. I am currently using about 3GB for apps right now,and dont have THAT many videos, so i could live with another 16GB mode. But if the 3GS videos take a lot of space, then an upgrade to the 32 GB might be appropriate. What do you guys think? Anyone recorded videos on the 3.0 firmware yet?

Yeah you can get the new iPhone and put it on your new line that you would open up and switch it over to your original line whenever you want. the bad thing about that is that you're paying $9.99 for an additional line for the next 2 years that you wont be using. I guess you can give this number out to other places and have the calls be automatically forwarded to your own line?

So in layman's terms, if you open a new line for $9.99 and get the iPhone for $199, you dont even need to put that phone on that new line. You can just steal the eligible upgrade that the line automatically comes with when you sign up and use it for your own number.
