As I mentioned in #modmyi a couple weeks ago, Apple is tossing around new ideas for preventing jailbreaking. One of the ideas that was suggested from my group is to stop using one encryption key and instead use a combination of udid, hashes based on imei and letting itunes generate a new encryption key for the device after validating the firmware at the so called mothership. This will slow down jailbreaking considerably but will not stop it completely... The dev-team are a pretty smart lot but so are Apple developers. A cat and mouse game for certain!

Yes, but by throwing ideas like that around you are giving Apple ideas....

AMEN!!! This morning I was adding an album to my phone and I saw the prompt for the 8.2 update. I too usually hold off until the brave masses have performed the update with no problems. When I was on 1.1.2 and tried to update to 1.1.4 it did not work correctly since I had an older version of iTunes. I am so glad to check here this morning because I was gonna update iTunes when I got home today.
I hope this does not affect the new device and the new 3.0 FW too much or I hope the problem will be fixed by then.

Sorry if I seem slow here but I have a jailbroken Iphone. Can I update and still use Itunes on my phone? I do not want to use pwange as phone already broken. Will Itunes stop me from being able sync?
Sorry if this has been answered but have read through the posts and am still unsure.

Yes you can synch.
It just stops pwnage so you can't jailbreak with it. If you are already jailbroken and will not need to jailbreak again it is OK.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

There is simply no reason to update iTunes at the moment. Just hold off until we get the green light from the dev team

Wtf, why do Apple call it the iPhone 3.0 software update? It should be called 3.0 software update :eh:

I accidentally updated and have not found any instructions on how to un-do what I've done on a PC. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up.I don't drink kool-Aid, I don't join cults.
This is why I break out in cold sweat going to Apple retail store.
