Last year everyone got a sneak pic (although crappy resolution) of the iPhone 3g because Apple included an icon in their SDK at the time for the new model. The icon is the one used in iTunes (it shows the image of your phone).

The icon for the the iPhone model due to be announced and released in the upcoming months has been found in latest SDK for iPhone 3.0 beta 5 firmware. The icon references iPhone version 2,1 which is the next iPhone. The original is 1,1 and the 3g is 1,2.

Sadly this time around it appears that Apple isn't making the same mistake. The icons for iPhone 2,1 appear to be identical to those of the current iPhone 3g (1,2). Either the rumors about no chrome bezel simply aren't true AND the next iPhone looks identical to the current model OR Apple just has some icons in there as placeholders and will add in new icons for the new model at a later date (which is what we believe).

Exterior looks aren't a big deal to me....I'd rather have hardware upgrades like better cam, OLED, etc.....

They could do a lot worse than making the new one look the same as the 3G - but I'm sure they'll mess with it!

Yeah I agree with stealth. While I don't think that there will be any drastic changes, I'm sure they will do something.

I also believe they will change the exterior looks, or many people will be disappointed. I, for one, do not care about the exterior looks because I will have a full body case for it, so it really doesn't matter. As Kruejl says, I would rather have other hardware/software upgraded. Just my 2 cents...

I am sure Apple will change the looks as lots of people do want to be seen with the latest version (and obviously so). I hope they don't chanege the form factor to much and they don't habe the excuse of going 3G so having to change to a plastic back.
My guess is they will go for colours - disgusting, I know, but some people will think it's cool.

What's most important is form, cause many people have invested a lot of money in accessories, and just like the switch from 2G to 3G, it sent people scrambling to get form-fitting docks, and compatible accessories. I think if they atleast keep the next phone shaped similar to the 3G so it'll fit in a Mophie Juice-Pack Air for example that would please a LOT of people, me included. I don't care about having a phone that looks different, as much as I want a phone that "is" different internally and functioning better.
