It is called a product life cycle in the world of Apple, and the iPhone 3G's life is effectively over now.
Im just hoping for an early July release rather than later, and will be interesting tos ee what they will offer for people already in a 3G contract seeing as the 3G iPhone was priced up subsidized in an 18/24 month contract scenario - can't see them letting anyone upgrade without paying full ££££ for the phone itself

Reeko has said pretty much what I was going too say. I would be very surprised if the timing was not going to coincide with the people coming to an end of 2G 2 year contracts in the USA but, of course they were only 18 month contracts in the UK.
The big unknown, as he says, is the price of 3G upgrades as everyone who got one is still in contract.
Luckily I'm not in contract so all I need to worry about is when yellowsn0w comes out and the price differential between a 32Gb and what I could get for my 8Gb 3G on fleaBay
