I was reading the rating replies on the Slingplayer app, and was shocked at how many people bought it w/o reading up on it. People that were shocked it was WiFi only should've read the description before purchasing it, and instead of ******** about it after the fact either jailbreak or learn to do the research on an app prior to buying. I don't feel bad for anyone that fails to read about the product they're buying, or, doesn't look for the solution which is as simple as jailbreaking.

As far as this app being crippled I'm not shocked. It seems time and time again anything related to being awesome for our iphone's gets the shaft. Apple, AT&T, whatever, they're all guilty of keeping the iPhone from reaching its full potential. MMS in 3.0? Finally? Perfect example right there. ugh

Like ronfin44 said, all you need to do is have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch and install VoIPover3G or Tricker ThreeG from Cydia and you can use it via 3G or Edge.

Anyone who doesn't jailbreak their iPhone is using a crippled device.

I was seriously considering buying a slingbox yesterday just to have live TV on my phone, and now that I know apple has something up it's sleeve I may just wait. Sucky thing is my residential area doesn't offer U-Verse. My sister lives 6 blocks away and she gets it. Not fair!!! I wonder if she'll let me watch her TV on my phone.

Confucious - my argument to that whole stance is that every one of us pays an absolutely rediculous amount of money for text messages / voice calls / data usage.

If anyone reads this and thinks, "well i don't pay over the top i get 7 million billion free text messages with my tariff" - your wrong. The carrier is still pulling your pants down.

Their T&C state that streaming is prohibited and yes, this is because the network could not handle it. BUT, for the amount of money I, and everyone ese, has been paying for their tariffs since day one each carriers network should be far far far superior than it is right now. There should be extremely better coverage and a far better 3G network.

Instead the big wigs have just got themselves an extra couple 0's in the bank.

Carriers have had it good for far too long. This type of pressure is whats needed to move forward and offer the consumer a reasonable service at a reasonable price. I feel no way bound by their T+C's and feel absolutely no guilt streaming anything over the 3G network.

WTF, that's messed up. Why the hell was Orb officially blessed by Apple then for 3G use? It streams live tv too. Talk about a double standard. If it wasn't for jailbreak, I would not be such a happy loyal iPhone fan. I'd probably try the google phone, palm pre, or new windows mobile device once v 7 is out. For now, as long as I can jail break, iphone remains supreme but this news still annoys and frustrates the hell out of me.

reeko, I found one of my bills from a few years ago when i moved house the other day, it was well over double what I'm paying now for a lot less, believe it or not prices are coming down. That doesn't mean they can't come down further and we shouldn't put pressure on though.
With regard to O's T&C it is entirely up to you, I just point out what they say and would also point out that streaming does have a very easily identified usage pattern.
IF they find out you are streaming then they *could* either cancel your service and make you pay or just charge you for the data used (which could be very expensive).
I am just pointing out the facts (as I see them), what you do is up to you but I would hate for someone to get a massive bill and say 'no one told me this could happen'.

confucious, im growing to like you. Those years ago when we were paying twice as much for allot less are the times when the networks should have beefed up for the future, preparing for these times, instead of pocketing the cash. Back in the day we used to get our pants pulled down and bummed by the carriers, now we just get our pants pulled down.

When i moved to the simplicity tariff before the release of the 3G i asked about the 'unlimited internet' (which is far from 'unlimited') and the O2 CSR said that they will give you 1 warning before cutting you off altogether. If i ever get that warning ill stop.

I'm glad I didn't p!ss you off too much. I only ever give my opinion and am just here to learn.

A good place to start is the ASA who allow people to claim something is 'unlimited' when it clearly is not. One of the reasons I am with T-Mob (apart from their very fast speeds) is the fact that their T&C are far clearer than anyone else's and they have upped their limits and adapted their plans based on actual usage. They give you clear options and, if you want extras such as streaming or VOIP, you can have them - at a cost.
Most (all?) other UK networks just have one data tariff which limits what you can do so if you want to use your slingplayer over 3G you have no choice but to break their T&C.
I object to people streaming on T's basic package because t have an option where you can do it legally and I think their investment in their network justifies their prices.
The other networks need to catch up and offer some real competition - then, I think, prices will fall again.
In the mean time the ASA really need a lesson in what 'Unlimited' means!

Why do ATT&T suck? they are not in Brazil are they? Do Apple have a partner carrier in Brazil?
