Sling is Out, Jailbreakers can Haz 3G

We'll drum up a nice full review later today or tomorrow, but thought we'd let you all know who've been waiting - SlingPlayer Mobile is OUT! Click here to bring it up in iTunes, and yes, it is $29.99 as rumored earlier yesterday. And it doesn't work over 3G.
Of course, I know you're thinking "wait, I don't know if $30 is worth it with no 3G usage available..." well, have no fear. Tricker ThreeG is now available via Cydia, which once installed allows you to use SlingPlayer Mobile over 3G as well as WiFi. No extra work, no tweaking, just install Tricker ThreeG and you're good to go.
I've tried out SlingPlayer Mobile the last hour or so over both 3G and WiFi, and the quality is pretty good. There have been a few times I've been stuck with an "optimizing" message which sat there about 15-20 seconds while it buffered, but the playback is good, and it connected just fine to the SlingBox I have in my living room. The remote takes a little bit more getting used to, as it isn't the nifty remote Sling has that actually MATCHES your cable provider's remote - its just a standard. Once I used it an hour though it made sense.
We'll see how it goes as I use it the rest of today... either way, this is pretty frickin awesome.

I have no idea what a slingplayer is? Is there any point to buying this if you don't have a slingplayer? I would love to watch movies on my iphone.
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you liked what I said or did

a Slingbox goes in between your tv and your reciever/dvd/ps3/appletv. It captures the signal and broadcast to your slingplayer. You can run slingplayer on your pc at work or on the go. Now you can run it on your iphone. I think best buy sells them for $180.

Now i'm definetly gonna upgrade, this is the one thing that I missed from using my old smartphone. woopee! a discount. now i gotta wait till i get this before i buy the app.
They are giving everyone a $50 discount for upgrading from the old chocolate bar to new solo or hd. You need the serial number.

I'm honestly thinking about getting a sling box now and using it over 3G like a bandit just because AT&T didn't want it done.

the solo is 180, the hd-pro is 300 (no monthly costs! just as long you pay for your upstreaming to the internet at your house)
If you visit your friends in florida, you can watch "your" programing over the internet. You don't need another box, just the software that connects you to your receiver.Last edited by elsgk2; 05-13-2009 at 11:34 AM.

So I could still use it in florida
What's the difference between the solo and the HD-pro?
And does it have a monthly cost?
