Apple Replacing Water Damaged iPhones for $199

Does your iPhone look like the one pictured above or worse? Good news! Apple is trying to clear out their iPhone 3g stockpile in preparation for the next iPhone due to be announced in June. Just take your water damaged iPhone 3g into your local Apple Store, drop down $199, and walk out with a fresh and working iPhone 3g.
Instead of the typical out of warranty replacement process which involves the purchase of a new iPhone and extending your contract an extra two years the Apple Store is now just taking your money, popping your sim into the new iPhone, and letting you walk out of the store.
You could, however, hold on to your money for an extra couple months and spend it on the next iPhone . . .
edit: US only as far as we know

Is there a link for this? I'm asking cause a friend has a water damaged phone and doesn't want to look like a fool going in and expecting a replacement for $200. Is this just US or Canada too?

i know a guy who dropped his new white iphone 3G in a puddle on the first day he got it! LMFAO, he tried to return it and get it replaced but i think apple wanted $500 for it. that was in the summer. poor guy. i laughed at him for so long. i guess this is good news for him but if i was him i would just wait for the new iphone.

When the new iPhone is released, how do you think Apple will distribute this?
I.e. All customers that already have the 3G can go trade in there 3G and pay some thing like £100 and then the contract they already have continues.
Or
Will they make you trade in pay money and also take out a new 2 year contract?
I don't know how Apple rolled out there 3G for the people that had the 1st gen iPhone as I went and bought one off Ebay and then lost it after the 3G came out so I just went and bought a brand new 3G.
Peace...Last edited by m-klass; 05-05-2009 at 11:07 PM.

This is cool, but I still sold a wet iphone that wouldn't even turn on for over $200. Thats the way to go!

I personally would wait. Hopefully the new design won't have that damn plastic on it!

you know what your totally right, lets hope that the new design does not have plastic on it... when i first got the iphone 3g i had it for about 3 days and ive looked after it well even it it was 3 days and i noticed that there was scatches on the back already.
its sad the iphone is expensive you would of thought that they'd atleast make it scatch prrof or use a different material!
