AT&T Doubling 3G Speed (And SEXTUPLING Soon)

AT&T is doing some big network upgrades. The current 3G cap on the AT&T network is 3.6 megabits per second - that'd be increasing to 7.2 Mb/s. They're doing software upgrades at all the base stations to get this boost.
HSPA (the technology behind AT&T's "3G" network) can be pushed to 14.4 MB/s - but due to technical issues and the readiness of HSPA+ (call it 4G), AT&T will be skipping over that upgrade to move their network to full on 4G HSPA+ later this year. That's speeds of up to 21 Mb/s, nearly 6 times what they've currently got.
This could be the "significantly faster internet speeds" rumored to be coming on the new iPhones rolling out this June.
With the rumors of Apple gearing up for a slightly larger touchscreen device, plus this new high-speed network... and the addition of HD content in iTunes Store as well as HD iPhone video output in upcoming models... streaming media is getting so much better.
I have a feeling Sling.app and Hulu.app are going to be my favorite apps.

Well yeah, it's not like Apple's going to EVER stop making new iPhones! =]
Well, I'll agree they are first with premium cellular connections development, but their prices are WAY too high. I like paying $6 for full Internet on T-Mobile.

How about they work on getting 3g coverage on more than about 15-20% of the US. the closet 3g coverage to me is about 100 miles away. Lame

I'd be happy with the upgrades to 3g.. Instead of upgrading to a signal that 99 percent of phones out there right now can't receive.. typical sales motivated technological upgrades that are gonna come back to bite ATT...
Even though I am deep within the dark orange of 3G map and most of my travels are as well, I do with they would spread the 3g out more and double the speeds

Oh geez. I remember dial-up. The noises were ear piercing, but it was worth it to go on AOL and talk with my friends. lol

Anyway, I was wondering how long it would take AT&T to talk about ramping up their internet connections ever since I saw a commercial for Sprint's upcoming 4G network. Competition like this will only benefit the consumer.
