Apple's Push Notification Service (PNS) allows developers to send notifications to your phone after you've closed out of the application. For example, if you use an IM app like Beejive or AIM, after you close it you are disconnected from the server and if someone sends you an IM, you won't know until you log back in. With PNS, if someone sends you an IM, there will be a notification for you that someone sent you something. Pretty interesting although I still wish for true background processes.
Also, I'm working so I might be able to get a Mac soon. Just not soon enough.Last edited by c0mpguru; 04-10-2009 at 06:47 PM.

Okay just one question...since apple is allowing this...
When will we start seeing downloadable applications with push in the app store?!

with push does this mean our mail will be received as soon as it hits our mailbox like that of the blackberrys?

When 3.0 is released for the public. Push isn't actually "live" it's just available for developers to begin testing their apps with it. They're aren't any push apps available because the developers have to make them first. So once 3.0 is released to the public, in the summer, then we'll see push capable apps in the app store.

HAHAHAHAHA I've been wanting to ask the same question for a while.

Because I always read about this stuff a day or two before it shows up on MMi.
