hey zinjen, they changed the boot image just by changing that file. In the de they have planted the plain apple image, the devs just replaced it with a different apple logo image. At least that's what I heard

Also I agree with Reeko on the argument that a pre modded .ipsw is not that much of a use at the moment because if you think about it, how long does it take to do a full hack on the iPhone with ZiPhone 2.5, it took me about the same time as to go and make a cup of tea and a couple of slices of toast one morning and it takes maybe 3 - 4 minutes to do a restore/upgrade through iTunes. Also the more applications/files you add to the modded .ipsw file the longer it will take to restore/upgrade.

I still think this is an amazing breakthrough in development for the iPhone but at the moment its easier just to use ZiPhone although I feel that if the 1.2 software proves to be extremely hard to jailbreak, unlock & activate then the modded .ipsw route will be much easier and safer to do.

1. It's OK, allthough it would be illegal to actually put up the firmware, there is probably a way to get whatever patches you make into the directory for the patches. And it is actually pretty fast

2. I can almost assure you that ZiPhone will not work with 1.2

Aug 2007 we were assured the iPhone would never be unlocked.
Oct 2007 we were assured FW 1.12 would never be unlocked.
Dec 2007 we were assured (by Geohot) FW 1.13 could never be unlocked.

Could someone please verify my perception? I've been modding almost since the iPhone was released. I'm a PC guy (slowly learning more unix) and use imaging techniques on a daily basis as part of my job. My question is: It will soon be possible to "snapshot" an iPhone load/configuration for backup and reinstallation? This is huge if true. Anyone, thanks ahead for any feedback

I never said it couldn't be unlocked. I am just telling you that you are going to be disappointed in June when you try ZiPhone.

All this hack means is they have broken signature authorization to verify is valid file or not and allow it to be run.

Simple put they extracted all files, modified and recompiled into itunes file format.

Apple can combat with new itunes and tighter/better security. As if you read articl eon how done, they have the method, just STUPID to not implement.

What does this all mean... any new firmware will be risky of being valid or not if donwloaded off untrusted sources....so may mean some bricks

I don't have a doubt in my mind that ziphone will work with June's update. Regardless imo the cat has paralyzed the mouse. Apply may have some limited abilities but we will always be ahead.
