Want 3.0? Don't Have an iPhone Developer Program Account? Devs are Selling Spots.

With the pure awesomeness of iPhone 3.0 features many want to upgrade. There are a couple small catches though. First of all to (legally) download the iPhone 3.0 firmware you must be a registered with the Apple iPhone Developer Program at the cost of $99. Next, if you snatch the firmware off of a torrent you're out of luck because your iPhone's Universal Device ID (UDID) is not linked with a registered developer's account in the iPhone Developer Program making it fairly useless.
Tipster happyaxekillercob pointed out to us that slots in dev accounts have made it to ebay. With a "Buy it Now" price of $0.99 and "shipping" of $9 the grand total to get a slot in a dev account and run some working 3.0 firmware is $10 instead of the $99 it costs to join the iPhone Developer Program.
Another MMi reader with a dev account sent us a tip about his website to do the exact same thing. His prices are $15/slot but according to the email he is happy to give a 30% discount to MMi members making the grand total $10.
Your options if you just can't wait for Firmware 3.0:- Register in the iPhone Developer Program through Apple for $99.
- Grab a spot for your UDID in a pre-existing dev's account for $10.
- Find a kind friend that will add your UDID for free.
- Wait.
- Jailbreaking is awesome = wait.

Interesting. Does anybody think that we use QuickFreedom to update and jailbreak our iPods to 3.0?

it's very very very very buggy. But it is beta, so if you want to beta it go head. I use my phone alot though and found myself downgrading. 10 minutes of fun though. ^^ haha

Its like a new market. I have sold a few accounts for $10 on my dev account. Personally, I have used the money to invest back into development.

I'd rather just wait. Even if I could get 3.0 working on my iPhone for free, I wouldn't, because you can't fully enjoy it until it's released. No push yet (no apps out use push yet), none of the new APIs matter now, I've never needed copy and paste, no tethering (AT&T), I don't know if A2DP works yet, and NO JAILBREAK YET! I'm also getting mixed stories about MMS working yet, which is what I want the most. 3.0 is hardly worth getting now.
Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?

Hey, sorry if I came off sounding like an ad. I just wanted to add in the times when I'm at my computer for faster responses. I'll behave now that I know.Last edited by bsonline; 03-23-2009 at 09:34 PM. Reason: clarification

those options are really funny but i can wait!
and also if u google a little u i'll find the 3.0 but yes its true it is really useless to put it on ur iphone if ur UDID is not registered!

Installed it wow'd @ the additions.
Then I realized that firmware 2.2.1 is just too awesome.
I mean everything apple is adding I ALREADY have/had on my phone.
Copy and paste-check
landscape mode sms/mms-check
tethering-check
background apps-check not in 3.0.
Scrobble my music all over town check not in 3.0
Had it for a day really enjoyed the email landscape mode
other then that dont really miss none of its features.
But ohh boy did I MISS QUICK REPLY FROM ANY APP.
It was so annoying to be in safari while on a phone call
and have sms app close safari so thata I CAN RESPOND TO A BUSINESS INQUIRY.
Iuse my iphone the entire day taking calls, making calls, researching online while on a call and texting.
I just had to revert back.
I am hooked on the versatility of a jailbroken iphone.
If somebody out there disagrees then your not putting your phone to serious using/testing.

Ugh When u get off the phone the volume controls show... safari sometimes don't rotate and have a high chance of crashing. and also my maps application is very very sensitive will crash for anything. I don't understand the old items are the ones that crash not the new items..

If I buy it, can I still use my phone to make phone calls and whatnot?
Or will it just become a "beta" phone? It's only impossible if you quit.

Forget about it. You will want to downgrade after 12 hours
