iPod Touch 2G has Bluetooth Functionality, 3.0 to Unlock it!

Click the image to open in full size.

Way back when iFixit opened iPod touch 2G, they found a Broadcom BCM4325 Bluetooth chip inside. It was believed to be functional just as a Nike+ receiver but Greg Joswiak' comment during Q&A today made it much more functional, according to whom, the bluetooth functionality will be "Unlocked" with the 3.0 update.

Quote:
Q: Bluetooth on the iPod touch?
A: Bluetooth is a capability we can “unlock” on the latest-gen iPod touch.
That means the Touch users will be able to enjoy P2P gaming and A2DP functions as well, which the iPhone 2G users and iPod Touch 1G users won't be able to. Makes the $9.95 price tag of the iPod software worth it!

But I thought the chip in it (BlueCore4) also supports A2DP?

This is them saying they can unlock it. Did they also specificly say they actually will do that?

Vice versely, I wonder if this means that the chip in the iPhone3G can be "unlocked" to be used as a Nike+ receiver.

I saw this coming a mile away. Thats why I swapped my 1st gen 16gb touch for an 8gb 2nd gen touch. Plus, the 1st gen was out of warranty.

Just becasue the original iPhone's BT hardware is "different" doesn't mean it won't get A2DP/AVRCP, so where is the actual statement coming from that it will not? Is this just an assumption? It has all the hardware it needs. Also, what about that FM radio chip in the Touch 2G? If I were paying for the update, I'd want that too! Is the same Broadcom chip with FM radio in the iPhone 3G? Will the 3.0 software bring Street View to the Touch 2G (strangely absent even though it's on the same firmware for iPhone)?

Now, A2DP/AVRCP is going to be REALLY useful on my motorcycle + Parrot SK4000. The charge-through A2DP/AVRCP adapter I'm currently using is a pain because it dumps you to the iPod interface any time a call comes through or a playback control command is sent (auto or manual) whether you were listening to it or not. Also, I got one with charge-through functionality and it doesn't work 100% (sometimes shows "plugged in" but not "charging" even with a 1,000mA charger).
