So it looks like the new OS for the iPhone will be showcased on March 17. Note, this doesn't mean it will be RELEASED next week. As to what the OS will bring, who knows but if it doesn't have push notifications I will be a very, very angry individual.

wow i cant wait.. just another possible proof that the new iphone will debut the new os in june... same as last years 2.0 release...

Assuming they find a way to make the phone hack/jailbreak proof, I don’t mind losing jail break IF……..

1) They support copy/paste
2) They allow me to record videos (qik.com at the very least)
3) They allow voice turn by turn driving directions
4) I don’t care too much about MMS, but they should support it!
5) Oh yeah, they better have something similar to SBsettings. I don’t want to have to dig through 4 menus just to shut on/off bluetooth

Is that too much to ask for?

Hopefully it’s a lot faster and has less lag issues, and or app memory leak crashes

I did NOT see this coming so soon. It was literally the furthest thing from my mind. Will our 3G's be in adequate with the OS?

My predicitions:

1. Showcase of flash working on the iPhone, development tools for website designers.

2. Some form of copy/paste

3. Unifying of contacts, more solid linking of faces to text and phone info.

4. The announcement of useable push for devs, or, the possibility of allowing developers a new way to let their programs "lite" check for updated info (trickle update). Possibly allowing 1-3 programs to stay in trickle update mode.

5. A new feature to make the UI move with more 'splash'

Now a few wilder ideas:

1. Themes. I dont know why they havent been doing this.
2. Video.
3. Bluetooth A2DP

Thats all I have for now.

Sounds a bit fishy... Oh yes they will get you all those enhanced options, but have you thought of what they will do about anti-jailbreaking?
3.0 is a scary number

If they're going to jump to 3.0 in the firmware number then it's obvious there's going to be some big additions. Whether or not they are things we want or things they think we want is the question.

I don't think anything is "un-jailbreakable" for the AMAZING Dev-Team!!!

What I WOULD LIKE TO SEE is a lighter, faster OS. I'm tired of all the lag since 2.0...

I miss the good-ol 1.1.4 days

I hope apple don't mess with jailbreaking. Having grown accustomed to the set up it would be disappointing to have to decide between 2.X jailbroken or 3.0 stock.

Hope the dev team has access to it to do their much appreciated work so we can enjoy the features of 3.0 and jailbreak

I agree. Apple will obviously do something about the jailbreaking community, because I mean, do you think that the 2G was so hard to hack by accident? No, Apple did that on purpose. So I'm sure that 3.0 will give some kind of problem either for jailbreak or unlock. Also, lets hope that Apple didn't have enough time to change the base-band (name?) on the newer iPhone. That is why it took so long for the devs to hack it. They wanted to hold it until the new iPhone came out so Apple couldn't change it up so that they would have to go through the process again.

For those who say that apple will do something that wont let us jailbreak: it is out of apples reach to fix the exploit, because its in the hardware. Now on the other hand they may be doing something software-wise, like some kind of check that checks if your device is jailbroken and if it is they prevent it from accessing certain functions.
now on the update, i cant wait to see what new features apple brings to us. will it be flash? will it be mms? will it be copy/paste? maybe it will be a self destruct button, that melts the CPU of the ipod/iphone?
only time can tell......

Just like the iPhone OS 2.0 came out for the iPhone 3G... this new iPhone OS 3.0 will be coming out for the next generation iPhone. It's not a big surprise this is coming out.
