Did You Leave Verizon for the iPhone?

It appears that Verizon is worried that they missed out when they refused to be THE carrier for the iPhone back in 2007. There have been rumors since then that Verizon would be getting the iPhone but to date AT&T is still king.
According to a Boy Genius report Verizon is trying to figure out exactly how many people it lost thanks to its iPhone mistake. In a survey sent out to previous Verizon customers the question “What could Verizon Wireless have offered to keep you as a customer?” is asked. Not surprisingly one of the possible answers to the question is "The iPhone."
One question asking you if you left Verizon for the iPhone isn't enough. Verizon asks twice. "What is the PRIMARY REASON you chose your new carrier?" with the possible answer of "Wanted the iPhone."
Two times not enough for you? Don't worry, Verizon asked about you and your iPhone three times in their one survey . . . .
Since Verizon probably isn't going to share their poll results with us average Joes we are running our own poll!

I did! And actually, if Verizon's support was with a GSM network, with a hybrid of Verizon and ATT Phones, it'd be the best.
But the iPhone made me switch. Last summer.

having experience as an apple retail employee, the majority of people coming in to purchase a phone seem to come from verizon. When customers forget to bring their account number so that they can port their phone # (which 90% of customers do forget) They'll give verizon a call. As soon as an iphone is mentioned, they transfer the call to a customer 'loss prevention' specialist who will go on and on trying to convince the person that the storm is a better option

I really really wanted the iPhone to be with Verizon....I was upset that Verizon turned it down and hoped that someday Verizon would kick themselves in the A** for not accepting Apples conditions.... I hope Verizon is freaking right now because everyone is or has left them.....
They think that everyone should stay with them because of their data service..... well low and behold everyone wants data that is for sure... I hate edge and can't get 3G but I paid my way out of Verizon to get the iPhone....
Yup I sure did! I had Verizon for about six months and dumped them for the iPhone.... I did not hesitate to leave them for it...
And the way I see it is... the iPhone would have been totally awesome if it was on Verizon's network.... But for now it isn't going to happen..... at least for now...

I'm stuck with nextel haha. I only have an iPod but I'm gonna update to Verizon as soon as they get the iPhone so that it will be cheaper with the new 2 yr. contract and all.

my contract with verizon was up after having them ever since I've had a cell phone back in 2000. The iphone just looked way too nice of a phone to have and the bill was cheaper than what i was paying with verizon believe it or not.
ps i think its funny how the touchscreen craze has started due to the iphones popularity. Has anyone noticed how other touchscreen phones have the slowest response time compared to the iphone

The reason Verizon has such a poor choice of phones is because of their proprietary systems - phones have to be made just for them.
I know you guys in America probably don't realise this but there is a world outside of the USofA and 90% of it uses GSM
Phones made for AT&T can be sold virtually unmodified throughout Europe, Australia and a lot of RoW.
Phones made for Verizon can only be sold to Verizon Customers (and Nextel?).
I travel a lot throughout Europe (or used to) and can use my phone in every country - we have one standard and multiple providers, the competition leading to lower prices and a more mature phone system.
Just my 2d's worth.

This is also exactly why they turned down the iPhone. Verizon, like Apple, wants to be in complete control of the phones that people buy from them. Verizon installs their own software on all their phones, something that Apple simply would never allow. Given given my own experience with my last Verizon phone, I think I can safely say that allowing Verizon to use their own software would have utterly ruined the iPhone experience. You had two companies, Apple and Verizon, that both wanted to be in total control of the iPhone, so the deal didn't work. But Apple has the product that everyone wants and Verizon is paying dearly for their inflexibility.
And to get back on topic, I dumped Verizon for an iPhone in December. The service isn't quite as good on AT&T, but the iPhone is such a HUGE upgrade from my P.O.S. RAZR (with Verizon's clunky OS), that I don't mind at all.
